Another blistering day on the marsh. Was my day off today but the lure of clear skies and an easterly wind dragged me back to the river wall for a few hours from 1030. Managed to avoid doing any 'proper' work and enjoyed a good array of migrants whilst loafing around in the glorious sunshine!

Fifteen huge, upright, brightly coloured Wheatears suggested strongly that they were of the race that heads beyond our shores to the distant breeding grounds of Greenland and Iceland while a smart silvery Ring Ouzel eluded most visitors as it careened around the small bushes that dot the river wall. Always nice to see. Tree Pipit and Yellow Wagtail flew over calling and three male Grasshopper Warblers were merrily buzzing away. Two Greenshank, Green Sandpiper and Black-tailed Godwit were on the pools and 2 Whimbrel were on the foreshore. The pair of Garganey were still on the Tagets and a Hobby cruised around with two Kestrels for a while.

All in all not a bad visit for someone who was not meant to be there!
