On Friday 18 March, I got suited and booted to attend the annual glitzy Thurrock Business Awards in Grays. Last year we won the Environmental Business Award and this year entered the same category and tried our hand at a new one.

We didn’t manage to defend our title, but we did come away with the Business Innovation Award!

It took a lot of scrubbing to get me looking like this... (note the impressive sunset)

Look out for the Awards Supplement in this week’s Thurrock Gazette for a picture of me up on stage collecting our award. If I have a big smile it is because I was relieved not to have fallen up any of the the steps to the stage whilst being dazzled by flashing strobe lights!!

In the meantime, here are Mel and I with the award, posing outside the centre in the glorious sunshine today. And yes I am slightly green...

Huge thanks to all the volunteers and staff at RSPB Rainham Marshes who made this possible. And we’d also like to thank the Thurrock Gazette and the sponsors of the category Calor Gas Coryton.
