Yesterday was not overly warm but the birds were all buoyed by the splash of sunshine. Skylarks were in song across the reserve and several showed well along the foreshore as they hovered overhead unsure as to whether or not to give it there all or to return to the saltmarsh to continue to search for a snack or two to see them through the day.

Lapwings and Golden Plover were on the wing in skittish flocks all day once again but I did not see the Marsh Harrier or Peregrine once but the sight of high flying formation 'V's of Goldies is always special. At least two Ruff were seen with the flocks and over the high tide there were about 300 Dunlin, 17 Black-tailed Godwits and 26 Curlew as well.  A first year Caspian Gull was seen on the foreshore.

Just starting to 'V' up with a few Lapwing (Lawrence Rogers)

As you can see there were a lot of Lapwing around.... (Lawrence Rogers)

Cetti's Warblers were incredibly vocal but typically unshowy while we must have heard at least six Water Rails on the circuit.
