This year I want to try something different out on the reserve. Your ears are just as important as your eyes and I reckon that most birding (sub-consciously or otherwise) is split roughly 70% to 30% in favour of your ears. You also know more than you think and one of the best ways to learn is not from a cd but from getting out there and absorbing the sounds around you.
From this, 'Blindfold Birding' has evolved. It will operate in the same way as a normal guided walk but with the added twist that at several points around the trail you will be blindfolded so that you can focus in the sounds around you. You will also learn very quickly teh importance of keeping your feet still!
Anyway, there are several dates throughout the year (not just in the spring) as there are always bird and always sounds!

I know I know.... this was just for a photo! will have proper eye ones for the event!
I think that it would help if the blindfold did not also go over the ears!
