Popped into Pulborough Brooks last Sunday evening to be greeted by this female Mallard nesting in one of the flowerbeds outside the classroom at the Visitor Centre. Please keep an eye on her as she must be very vulnerable to passing predators!
They do nest in some silly places, but I've heard of worse ones. I'm sure the visitor centre staff will take as much care of her as they can. You are right though, she is in a vulnerable spot!
