Look for a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ pink and plump

what you’ll often see is just his rump.

A flash of black and a patch of white

is what you’ll see as he takes flight

But sometimes if you really search

in the blossom you’ll see him perch.

All puffed up and looking pretty

he may even sing his little ditty

Who can tell me which bird this poem describes?

Identifying wildlife is often about playing detective and gathering clues and we’re inviting families to come along this Saturday to our ‘Hiding & Seeking’ event and follow the poetry quiz trail down to our activity station.

Down in the hide, you can then do some wildlife seeking with our friendly team of helpers, make an animal mask and then perhaps write a poem of your own.

You don’t need to book in for the event, just come along to the visitor centre anytime between 10.30 and 12.30 on Saturday morning and we’ll get you started.

Whilst parts of the trail are underwater, there are still plenty of places to explore (and muddy puddles to jump in!). Thankfully, the visitor centre is high and dry and once you’ve done some exploring and got closer to nature you can warm up in the cosy café. It has even started to feel a little more spring-like this week, with some glimpses of sunshine and birds singing. To celebrate this, our café now have a new range of ice creams, all made with top quality local cream and milk. Seriously Real Ice Cream is handmade in Pulborough. I would particularly recommend the maple & walnut flavour – but I haven’t tried them all yet (honestly!)

Does anyone need a clue?
