Many of you will know the exciting news about black-winged stilts breeding successfully at the newest of our RSPB reserves at Medmerry. Having raised 3 chicks, these splendid wading birds have now consented to go on tour and seem to be putting on a show at each of the RSPB's Sussex reserves.
Having left their breeding patch at Medmerry, the stilts dropped in our colleagues at Pagham Harbour and posed for photos at the Ferry Pool. Thanks to Mick Davis for this cracking picture!
This week it is the turn of Pulborough Brooks to play host to this fabulous family. As I type, they are entertaining visitors, volunteers and staff.
They have spent the last few days out on the North Brooks enjoying the mud and water alongside a group of 5 avocets, a greenshank, half a dozen green sandpipers, dunlin, little ringed plover, snipe and common sandpiper.
If anyone has managed to get any photos of the family here at Pulborough Brooks, we'd love to see them.
Lovely photo of a beautiful bird. I was watching them at 7a.m. on Tuesday 5th July. Seeing them and the Avocet family in the early morning sunshine was an absolute treat.
