Paul Spiers and I have just been checking the state of the Nature Trail in a couple of places where heavy machinery has crossed the trail.  A combination of both the machinery and the foul weather we've experienced recently has meant there are a couple of spots on the trail that are quite muddy.   This includes the section of public footpath down onto the Brooks towards Pulborough and the crossing point at the top of Green Lane.  Please be careful when walking on these bits, as it is slippery and I would suggest wellies as appropriate footwear!

As an idea of just how wet it is at Pulborough, we have just totaled the rainfall data since Saturday and we've had 60.2mm.

Our winter visitors are certainly enjoying the water though!  While we were out this morning, we noticed a large number of Black-Tailed Godwits on the only island still above water in front of Nettley's Hide.  Clive, one of our hides and trails volunteers, counted then for us through his 'scope and came up with a figure of 225 birds!  Truly a Pantheon of Godwits.  (Other collective nouns include an omniscience or a prayer of godwits!)
