As the weather continues to show very unusually characteristics for the time of year, with primarily the wind in a northerly direction the last few weeks were very slow. However there was a surprise for the last few days of May with a Kentish Plover and Little Stint appearing with the migrating flocks of Ringed Plover at Church Norton. The resident Ringed Plovers have hatched there first chicks of the season and the season is in full flow. After all the hard work over the winter out on Tern Island it is now paying dividends with Oystercatcher, Black Headed Gull, Ringed Plover, Little, Common and Sandwich Tern all nesting, with the first chicks starting to arrive.

Over at Medmerry the stilt Pools are hosting both Avocet and Little Ringed Plover chicks as well as a small Black-Headed Gull Colony. Also Despite the poor Lapwing breeding season at the Reserve two almost fledge chicks have been seen out on the saltmarsh.

Warm days have been in short supply recently but when they do appear the invertebrates around the site spring to life around the meadows and ponds so keep your eyes open for Dragonflies and Butterflies. In the evenings the moth trap has been catching a variety of moths and if you are interested in seeing the results of one of our traps then we are running an event for National Moth Weekend on the 11th June (see Events section for details)
