Took a walk around the outside of the reserve today. Had only just started at about 1.30pm and was in the field behind the rifle range when two owls started circling and hunting. They had a little go at each other when they came close. They flew all round me and even over my head. This was the first time I have seen the owls at Otmoor and they are sensational. This experience lasted about half an hour and ended when they both headed off in opposite directions. I wish I had taken a camera!!!
I went to the hide to watch the starlings at the end of my walk and was treated to a siting of a hare and also one of the owls came all around the hide.
Starling numbers were not large but they did seem to be flying a bit longer and there were certainly predators in amongst them.
A fantastic day with loads of birds everywhere - mostly fieldfare that seemed to be coming with me on the walk??
