Managed a short visit to Otmoor on Saturday. Not a great deal of activity but a pleasant visit nonetheless.
The hike to the second screen was rewarded by a solitary cormorant wondering where everyone else was.
A couple of geese flew over but didn't hang around.
The late afternoon sunshine added a warm glow to the proceedings. Had to take a photo on my way back to screen one.
Another pleasant interlude at screen one - with knowledgeable folks talking about gadwalls and the like - me listening on in awe. Back to Simon Barnes and his 'How to Be a Bad Birdwatcher' for me, I think.
The walk back to the bird feeders was highlighted by the ducks basking in the sunshine. I can identify the male mallard but that's it for me.
Arriving at the bird feeders, I was pleased to see a woodpecker so I hung around for a while. The woodpecker was joined by a scruffy looking great tit and a blue tit before heading off into the trees and away.
A male chaffinch joined the party - he seems to be wearing socks - I hope he's OK.
And, finally, one of the squirrels came for his share of the food on offer.
A worthwhile visit, a bit of exercise and sunshine instead of rain - what more could you ask for?
