Last week I had to do a double take when I popped into The Loons hide - for a second I thought we'd got water buffalo and nobody had told me...
..but it turns out it was just some of the young cows of one of our graziers, having newly found out how tasty reeds and bog bean really are!
They are doing a great job of grazing the vegetation back and having discovered a liking for the reed bed, they have been hanging around in front of the hide and visitors to last Friday's (03/08/12) Hide session were kept amused by their wanderings. The (other) highlights of the hide session were both female and male hunting hen harriers, black tailed godwit, large flocks of lapwing (45+) and curlew (approx 100), a few bonxies flew past and there were several sedge warblers flitting in and out of the reeds.
This weeks hide session is at Burgar Hill - drop in anytime between 10am at 1pm on Friday 10th.
