Earlier this year we were approached by the BBC's Springwatch team for help in making a Springwatch "special" celebrating the wonderful natural history of our seabirds. The result is a programme to be shown tomorrow on BBC 2 at 9.00pm (and on BBC HD at the same time) which shows our amazing seabird colonies and includes footage from Copinsay, Marwick and Noup Cliffs on Westray. The programme also features Skomer Island - the largest and most important seabird breeding colony in southern Britain and home to 6,000 pairs of Atlantic Puffins. Watching, you may learn things you never knew about our seabirds - for example that an Arctic tern may travel 3 times as far as the Moon in its lifetime on migration, and that gannets can dive into the water at speeds of over 60 miles per hour.

If you miss it - or forget to record it - don't worry, the programme will be repeated on the BBC HD channel on Friday 24th at 11.30pm
