The RSPB Local Group & the Orkney Field Club held our annual Feed the Birds Day on Saturday 29th October at Wellpark Garden Centre by kind permission of the Glue family.   A huge THANKS to all our volunteers who came along to help out on the day.

There was lots of fun to be had in our area of the garden centre - speaking to visitors about the types of bird food and feeders to provide for their local garden birds, advice on planting shrubs suitable for wildlife, etc.

There was also a buzz around the activity table where children and adults had a go at making bird cakes (lard & wildbird seed), pastry maggots (lard & wholemeal flour) and also got in touch with their creative side by making imaginative designs with sunflower seeds in apples.  Around 60 children participated and also a few adults joined in the fun!

Remember to take part in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch event over the weekend of 28 and 29 January 2012!  For more information visit www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch
