Summer is underway and we are excited to announce the Big Wild Summer!
This summer, we will be hosting events at Newport Wetlands National Nature Reserve, providing you with unique opportunities to connect with nature and experience the wildlife that call the reserve home.
Our team will ensure your experience with us is fun filled whilst being Covid secure. Please see our Covid events page for more information about what to expect and the changes we've made to keep you safe on your visit.
Nature trails (self-led)
We will be offering a nature trail activity, available 10am – 3pm daily. It costs £3.50 per child and includes a prize at the end for completion! No need to book, just turn up on the day. Please note that dogs are not permitted on this nature trail and the cost of the nature trail does not include the car parking fee.
Events
We will be offering guided walks and pond dipping sessions throughout the summer.
Pond dipping every Monday and Wednesday, 11am – 12pm and 3pm – 4pm. Costs £4.70 for an RSPB child member and £6.50 for a child non-member.
Guided walks (10am – 12pm):
Wildlife Watching at the Wetlands, Pollinator guided walk, Birdwatching for Beginners.
These walks fall on various dates and cost £10 for RSPB members and £12.50 for non-members.

Shop and café
If you’re visiting us and taking part in our fun-filled Big Wild Summer, why not pop into our café and gift shop.
Our RSPB shop offers a wide range of eco-conscious gifts, fair to nature bird food and lots of great wildlife care products so you can give nature a home in your own garden, we also stock a fantastic range of binoculars and telescopes. Our knowledgeable team are always on hand to give you any advice you may need. Our shop is open 10am – 4pm daily.
Our café will be offering a Big Wild Summer picnic that you can choose for yourself and enjoy out on the reserve. Our café is open 10am – 4pm daily, with indoor seating available until 3.30pm and takeaway available until 4pm.
Car park is open 9am – 5pm daily. There is a £3 all day car park charge for non-RSPB members (RSPB members free). Car park tokens can be collected at the welcome kiosk, located at the entrance of the visitor centre.
Toilets available 9am – 5pm daily.
There is a permissive dog and cycle route. Please see a member of the team on arrival and we will be happy to show you the route on our reserve map.
