In an update to the UK’s red list for birds in December 2021, we saw greenfinch added to the red list. Greenfinch numbers have been on the decline for several years now and was associated with the outbreak of Trichomonosis. This may also now be affecting other species such as collared dove, sparrow hawk and chaffinch. All species we might be lucky enough to spot in the garden. The Big Garden Bird Watch helps to monitor how of garden birds are doing across the country. What will you see this year?

We have a range of different events on across the weekend including “what’s that bird – learning from calls” and a “Big Garden Bird walk” for those wanting to challenge their birding knowledge. We have two “A beginners guide to birdwatching” for those wanting to start a new hobby or come on a lovely walk with knowledgeable guides. Our brilliant volunteers will be on hand to help you identify any birds that are around, whilst you try out our wide range of binoculars and scopes, available across the weekend.

Birdwatching is a great way to get the family outdoors and learning about the wildlife on our doorstop. Our “Children’s big Garden Birdwatch special” will help inspire them to learn more. Included is a free bird book to help tick off what birds you see! We will then help the little ones make their own bird feeder to take home!
