Recent sightings from 20 to 26 August 2018

The scrape right in front of our café offered some really nice sightings this week. Quite often you could see a Grey heron and a Little egret fishing there at the same time (while eating your own lunch at the other side of the large glass window). Moreover, there have also been some Teal around for some time now which are easy to spot and there are still some little Moorhen chicks which are always a favourite with our younger visitors. A Kingfisher brought a real splash of colour and could be seen right in front of the café, dashing over the scrape and then resting on a reed for a short time. Kingfishers have also been reported from the lagoons on the reserve. A look up to the sky was also well worthwhile this week with two cranes flying over on two occasions and with twelve Tree pipits flying over on Saturday. Quite regularly you could also see groups of Black-tailed godwits flying over the reserve before going down to the ground in a quite spectacular fashion. There was also a good number of Sand martins flying over the scrape and over the lagoons. Other highlights of the week were a group of Yellow wagtails and a Green sandpiper at Goldcliff.

Please note that we take our recent sightings list from the visitor sightings board that anyone can contribute to. This is great as everyone can get involved, but obviously can lead to potential errors too as they aren’t always verified!  We try to keep this list as accurate as possible but if you see something unusual feel free to comment here!
