Snake?

Hi- I spotted this snake (possibly!) in the water at minsmere yesterday. A quick google search says it could be a smooth snake but also says these are very rare and not seen in east anglia. Can anyone identify it?

    Bit late to comment on this, but I'm pretty sure that's an Adder, very rare to see swimming - you can tell it's an adder by the very distinctive head shape, and dorsal crossbars / patterns on it's back is just slightly blurred by the slow shutter speed of your camera / phone.
