A beautiful afternoon, with a first for me.

Thought I'd share some of the beautiful birdlife from what was a lovely afternoon yesterday:

A herring gull enjoying the weather.

Mr Mallard is looking good today!

Gadwalls look dull until you see the gorgeous feather patterns.

It's been a while since I saw a Dartford warbler so I was very happy to see this one.

They are adorable when they're young (and less camera-shy!)

A young gull flies past.  I'm going to guess it's a second winter herring gull.

This is the first common redstart I've ever seen!  Yay!

What a beautiful little bird.

This is the first snipe I've seen in ages - wish it had been closer.

Those gadwalls get everywhere.  Whoops - not gadwalls, pintails!  Thanks, Ian.

A colourful chaffinch at the visitor centre.

Finishing with this expressive pheasant.  She's a sight safer here than outside the reserve.

  • I am still congratulating myself on correct id of your Dartford Warbler!!!!!! Fabulous photos Clare, and to get the common redstart too - well it's a good start for your winter birds. Beautiful pheasant, yes I second your thoughts on it's safety.
