Deer Safari Minsmere

We went on one of the last deer safari's for this year last weekend, lucky with the weather but perhaps it was too good as it took awhile for us to find a stag. We saw a number of does in various places around Minsmere but finally found a stag hiding with some does in a gorse clump. Thanks to WJ driving and narrative during the trip.

First we found some doe's out in the open feeding on acorns

Then finally towards the end of the safari we found this magnificent stag hiding with some doe's.

Then his females popped out into view.

With some sharp eyes we did see one Stone Curlew away in the far distance so unfortunately no photos but I do have a picture of a distant relative from Tanzania, a Water Thick-Knee which does look very similar.

Being driven around on the deer safari gives you a great view of areas of the reserve you don't normally see and the size of the site. A really great day out.
