There are many good things about living so close to the reserve, one of which is the fact that when friends come over to visit we have a ready made visitor attraction to go to.

Today, the last Bank Holiday of the current spate, we invited a few friends over for a walk around the reserve and then back to mine for a barbeque. Weather conditions were ideal for walking but not entirely welcoming for bird flight. Arriving on site I was delighted to see the Friday workparty had been hard at work installing the new finger posts around the reserve. Can I just say how great they look and well done to everyone involved!

The posts look as if they've been in place for ages - that's how good they are.

Bird highlight today was the sight of a cuckoo flying across the southern meadow, our first view of a cuckoo this year.

My friends all agreed that walking around the reserve is a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours despite the 'white horse waves' on the lakes.

See you on the reserves,

Best regards,

Chris Edwards
