Hi everyone. We'll be traveling up from central England in September, trying to visit all the RSPB sites in Eastern Scotland. Can anyone recommend a cheap place to stay, anywhere between Mereshead and Mull of Galloway?

You might have got something already - but if not, and you are looking for self catering - I've just spent a week near Gatehouse of Fleet - Laghead Steading Cottage - lovely newly converted cottage in a beautiful location with friendly owners (and sheepdogs), lots of swallows, a rookery, a barn owl, buzzards and deer (and only a few miles from the Kite Feeding station at Bellymack Farm, Lauriston) . As you are posting a query on here I'm guessing the cottages at Mersehead itself are already booked - it is a great place to stay. You can find Laghead Steading Cottage - and lots of other cottages including the Mersehead ones at the Discover Scotland website which specialises in D&G cottages etc http://www.discoverscotland.net/index.php
