Weekly Chat, Sunday February 14, 2010

Oh my, another week.   How many rosettes did Tweed win at the agility contest? Check Patriciat's late post on last week's blog to find out!  Congratulations Tweed and Patriciat!

  • Annette: New hummer cam is also in OC. I was informed there were a few towns in between this one and Phoebe s.

  • Hi everyone.

Looks nice and sunny here but feels a bit cold.  Had to break the ice in the bird baths this morning.  Roll on spring, I say.  Watched a brillaint sight of two robins chasing each other around the garden.  Fabulous entertainment.

    OG:
Sorry you had a let-down with the blinds.  Hope it all works out well in the end.  Hope you get siskins soon.  I just wish they'd visit me more often.

    Alan:
Thanks for the hummingbird nest link.  Wonderful picture of the Zurich peregrine.  Happy to hear Hamish is healing well.

AQ:  I don't think I could handle the flight experience you describe.  All that waiting about during stopovers would probably drive me mad.  Mind you I've never flown before.  Glad your perdicted five days heatwave only turned out to be two.

    Diane:
Thanks so much for the Pale Male videos.  What an awsome bird!

Margobird:  That sounds like seriously crazy weather your having.  I don't blame the birds for making their escape when the hail stone started.  Meteorological brutality as far as I'm concerned.  Hope you get lots more sunshine.

A very happy Friday to all.

    Paul.

  • Thought you might enjoy this holiday story...OH and I toured Canada in 1995. Started at Toronto, then Montreal, Ottawa,Quebec down to Niagara back to Toronto and then flew to Calgary where we started a tour of the magnificent Rockies. We were in Banff on 1st of July which is Canada Day and also OHs birthday. We chose a lovely restaurant to celebrate and on arrival were asked if we were enjoying Canadas birthday. "Yes" I replied " and Daves too"Half way through the meal I sneezed and a close by waiter said "bless you LIz, It is Liz isn't it"? This was somewhat odd I thought, but nice and friendly. We finished our delicious meal and a waiter approached with a huge plate of homemade goodies and started to sing Happy Birthday (everyone else joined in) The plate was put in front of me and I was about to pass it to OH when I saw they had piped in chocolate round the outside "Happy birthday Liz. How embarrassing and how kind . I then had to pretend the birthday was indeed mine and we left the restaurant to calls of "happy birthday Liz " from the other diners and me giving them thanks for their good wishes. We then went on to Vancouver and Victoria and returned home to Shetland with many happy memories of Canada and the Canadians.

  • Just put both sets of curtains up and we are now comfortably installed back in our lovely new living room and ready to watch Eastenders later on this evening. Had a delicious lunch out at our favourite restaurant to celebrate  a belated Valentines Day and the completion of the work which has taken nearly a month from start to finish.

BRENDA Thanks for your zoom explanation. Experimented with it but that would have made the whole page small and I think it was only the script that shrunk. Still you have given me something to work on.

  • Great zooming for the schoolkids at Nofolk eagles:

  • can anyone tell me if there is a video camera of Pale Male or is it just stills and which is the best link for them please?

  • OG I don't have siskins this year either and not too many goldfinches.  Indeed, the foor is lasting quite a long time because our bird numbers seem to be well down.

  • Anette in SoCal Hi and thanks :) I dunno, I haven't flown yet but will very soon. Hopefully I will enjoy it enough to repeat the experience. I feel a real wimp for putting it off for so long :)

  • dibnlib there is no webcam on Pale Male's nest and the stills are photographs. The link is www.palemale.com  Lincoln Karim's website. The stunning photography is all his own.

  • CHLOEB Thanks for that info. Off now for my cup of tea.
