Weekly Chat, Sunday February 14, 2010

Oh my, another week.   How many rosettes did Tweed win at the agility contest? Check Patriciat's late post on last week's blog to find out!  Congratulations Tweed and Patriciat!

  • Nice sunny day – minus 4 at breakfast time, now up to plus 9!  Birds very active – including return visit from male Reed Bunting.  Busy morning doing “this and that” – including some ironing.

Caerann – loved the Belted Kingfisher – especially the “hairdo”!

Heron – maybe the days when you haven’t done much are the ones which fly by because you know about the things you could have done and didn’t have time for!

Tiger – enjoyed the pics of New York – saved one to be a future desktop – got Osprey on at present as encouragement to EJ to hurry “home”!

Lindybird – fond memories of Tatton Park – but also some wet flower shows!

Dibnlib – I hope you enjoyed your swim.

Cirrus – good to see you again.  Take care in the snow.

BrendaH – fog in Sussex, snow in Bristol and Northumberland, rain in Poole, sun on the Solway – all seems a bit upside down!

Alan – hope Hamish continues well for his post-op check tomorrow.  Like Lindybird, I wondered whether he would be wearing a “lampshade” on his head!  Loved the cheeky juvenile Eagle shots – and thanks to alert to “Eyes to the Skies” coming back online – look forward to seeing some of their red kites when we go up in May.

Margobird – pleased to hear you are managing to do a few things around the house – but don’t overdo it.

DjoanS – good to hear from you again – another lunch out, I see!  Sorry there wasn’t much to see at Hauxley, other than the winter scenes.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • You sound as though have had a really nice day DjoanS.  My birds are eating so much too.  I think the long hard winter they are having is the difference this year.  I lose count of how many times I put more food out for them.  They have had to contend with heavy showers today after quite a nice day yesterday.

  • Ciao tutti! Just quickly popping in and out here to say hi! And make my contribution re doggie pics. (These two belong to my sis, old photo and yes I know: only the other one is a dog LOL)

  • Auntie - good to see you again.  Lovely picture of your sister's animals - apparently enjoying some sunshine too!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hello Auntie hope you are well and both cat and dog are lovely.

  • Hi OG. About sunshine, we had absolutely gorgeous sunshine today. Though still very wintry, temp in morning -17C, but during the day went "up" to -7C and one could feel the warmth of the sun `cause it was shining from almost cloudless sky. Spring is coming maybe later that sooner but coming! I am such a spring-lover!!!! Have nice evening, must sign out now and have a bite of something.

Hi Margobird as well, take care and see you later!

  • Auntie : Nice to see that cats and dogs get on well together in Finland.

Hamish was offered the "lampshade" on the head option but declined it on aesthetic grounds.

Zurich peregrine has just made another appearance:

  • Hi OG - I didn't know you'd been counting my lunches out  :)) My partner and I have lunch out about once a fortnight ... sometimes its just soup and a roll, but its so nice to make the effort ... and I'm not  complaining!! Blood pressure check again tomorrow, so it has been healthy-eating for me. Pleased to see your door-fitting went well.

  • Hi everyone.

Most of the day has been cloudy but now the sun has decided to make an appearance.  Temperature is currently around 4°C.  I feel really bad for those who are getting rough weather.  Oh a more positive note, I'm absolutely delighted because a siskin paid a visit this afternoon.

Alan:  Glad Hamish is feeling good.  Thanks for the links.  Nice peregrine picture.

Lindybird:  Thanks for the holiday coincidence story.  Must've been horrible to have a weeks holiday cut to four days.

Margobird:  Glad to hear your health is improving.

DjoanS:  Glad you had a nice morning at Hauxley.

OG:  I don't envy you having to do ironing.  I've got to the stage now were I think creases add character.

auntie:  That's a lovely picture of your sister's pets.

    Here's a picture of today's siskin.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Morning all: Cloudy here with rain forecast tomorrow through Monday at least.

dibnlib: No idea about the type size - you were on this site I assume? If so, you probably didn't do anything wrong. :-)

Liindybird: I love the snowboarding events too - those kids - some of them look about two years old. I was noticing that some of them were nodding their heads in constant motion, then saw one fiddling with what I assume was an iPod.   Hmmm. Wonder what's with the typesize gremlins.   Geez. What a vacation - I'd probably have stayed in Birmingham given that I don't like flying at the best of times. But your compensation was a good example of the squeaky wheel getting the oil.  My sis and bro-in-law flew to Seattle one year and then took Amtrak (our infamous national railroad) down the coast to Santa Barbara (I think I told this story...) Anyway, at that time there was a brush fire up the coast about 40 miles that had been burning for days, but Amtrak acted all surprised and stopped the train just north of the fire - we later found out they'd had to stop it every day for three days!!  I was on the platform in Santa Barbara waiting impatiently to greet them when we got the news they were stuck. Hours later (after we could've driven up the coast and taken them off the train - not allowed!!! - they reversed all the way back up to San Luis Obispo then bussed everyone back down the highway. They arrived in SB 12 hours later at 5:30 a.m. - just shattered.  I wrote and they signed a "stinging" letter to Amtrak who apologized and offered a $100 voucher for their next ride - but it had to be used within the year!  Of course, they were back home in the UK by then with no intention of ever riding Amtrak again.  It's a shame, since it's a marvellous way to see the country. I'd do it in a heartbeat (but would take along several days of clean  knickers!!)  There's always the Canadian rail system, Via, but you don't get to see the southwestern US states, which are breathtakingly beautiful.  Phew. Sorry for long post.

Alan: You realize, of course, that Hamish is a member of the osprey-bloggers family, so we're all rooting for him. Very smart of him to protect his image by declining the lampshade.  Incidentally, we don't hear much from Tracy Island these days - they on holiday?  Crocus? I remember those. Hurray!  Thanks for the links.

Margobird: Glad you're feeling better - and that you too have crocuses (crocii??)  :-)   What a shame that storms alarm you - I love them but we don't get many at all here although they're forecasting them for Saturday.

Auntie: Ciao tutti indeed! You been watching Italian movies again?  :-)   Nifty photo!

Hallo and bye for now to everyone else. Off to the roses, or rather, the weeds!
