Happy new week folks! Don't foget to check the last few posts of the previous week. Heron posted a photo of a female reed bunting, AQ saw a "ginormous flock of corellas" (must Google that!), OG has found a nice B&B for her trip, Alan posted a nifty shot of the changing of the guard at the eagle nest, folks are wondering how Diane is doing with the storm the big storm back East, and much, much more! :-) We had almost 2 inches of rain in Santa Barbara today, which is brilliant. Still sorting files and likely to be doing so for a day or three to come. Take care all.
Bought clothes and jewellery for G-Dau in the end – a girl can’t have too many outfits – even if they are all pink! Just had two each of Collared Doves, Feral Pigeons and Wood Pigeons, all in pairs, in the garden at the same time – Pied Wagtail was quite overwhelmed!
Diane – did you go to bed at all Friday night? Your posts were timed in the UK as 5:20am and 10:50 am. I think Indiana is in EST which is 5 hours behind UK, so you were awake at half past midnight and 5½ hours later! You are clever doing all the house repairs and improvements yourself, especially having been a city girl!
Brenda H – pleased your post person came – I hadn’t realised it was bad enough to prevent deliveries! We’ve just had a drop of rain – enough to show on the paths around the house.
Alan – that’s a lot of Eagles to see together on the Estonia cam.
Tiger - APOD really is a truly fantastic WOW!!
Soosin – welcome back – I thought you must have changed your name or something!
Auntie – how lucky that you went out just when you did to see that Owl! I hope it will come back to your balcony.
Caerann – hope you are enjoying your Craft Day – what do you make?
Annette – that is awful about the Manatees – they are so rare anyway, and we know so little about them, it seems very sad that they are at increased risk now. Good couch-hunting!
Lindybird – remember, no calories if you eat it standing up! Enjoy!
Seem to remember it’s my turn to wash up! See you later, all.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Tiger: Thanks for that link. Great shot. Awesome.
Auntie : What an amazing owl encounter.
I have been trying to get another screen print of the Dunedin ospreys being fed but the camera is such poor quality here is a link to a youtube video instead:

Tiger, That APOD photograph is absolutely brilliant. I hadn't looked today, so thank you.
Auntie, I am so jealous of your close encounter with the owl. I hope you see it again.
Wattle & Soosin, Lovely to hear from you and that all is well with you both.
Caerann, I wonder how much craft work you achieve when you meet your friends, but I am sure you will enjoy your 'craft day'.
Lindybird, Have you seen those adverts for Paul McKenna, where he says that you should eat very slowly, so the message gets to the brain quicker, that you are full. He reckons that if you eat quickly, you are more inclined to over eat.
My sister and her son had just unloaded her shopping from his car, when they heard some one in the hall. It was a policeman, who promptly pointed out to them that although they had closed the front door, they had not locked it and therefore anyone could walk into her house, which he was now proving. She says it gave her a terrible fright ( her husband died recently). Her door wasn't locked as her son was having to return to his own home and was in a hurry. I gather quite a few police forces are doing this to make us more aware of securing our homes at all times.
Sun sets on the storks in Portugal:
Hi everyone. Not so much of the strange yellow orb thing today but temperatures a fair bit higher than the last while. Very mild due to the cloud cover, so less layers required today.Diane: Thanks for the peregrine falcon info. It's great to read about such wonderful birds.Alan: Thanks for the stork link. That's a great pic of the eagles in Estonia. Great sunset picture.Sue C: Thanks for the Chichester peregrines link. Tiger: That's an absolutely stunning picture. Thanks for the link.auntie: What a fantastic experience, having an owl visit you. No wonder you froze.AQ: Thanks for the blue sky picture. That's a nice crab apple.Wattle: Good to hear from you again. Hope you enjoy the cooler temperatures.A very happy Saturday to all.Paul.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
At home with the GHO s:
Had a little supper – and so to bed, but thought I’d drop in here first on the way.
Alan – those storks look such haughty birds! As for the owls, can't see which bit is whoooo!
Hi, Heron. Not much happening here this evening, I see!
Well, I guess that’s it for today!
Evening all: Lovely warm day here; OH and I went out to brunch - way more food than we typically eat at any meal - and watched people with binocs heading for the birding trails around the lagoon. I had crab cakes w/avocado benedict and roast potatoes; OH had lobster benedict or something like that. Made the mistake of having a glass of champagne each, which made us both sleepy and unambitious, but we did manage to check out the couch (still thinking about it) and also a fabric remnant store in town, where we got the names of clever people who can make slipcovers if we decide we want them. Then home to read and nap in the sun. Just got over the champers and it's already 3 and don't seem to have accomplished much today.
Lindybird: Yes, what will the UK come up with for the Olympics.
BrendaH: That would be scary, finding someone - even a policeman - in your home. Seems like an odd way to prove the point. But if it works....
Alan: Thanks for the images - those storks look a darn sight happier than the ones in http://storchennest-hoechstadt.de/live-cam
Not sure if I should start a new thread now or wait up for Diane!! :-)))
OG, Annette, Diane, Brenda H Thanks for your care about my sister. It's wonderful having her near, Annette. We were three, but the sister between Hilary and me ddied in her sleep about 2 years ago, so H is precious to me. She's still waiting for her pacemaker - will not be inserted before Tuesday, now, which is frustrating for her, especially as her OH is left to cope with house and 2 labradors, one quite old and lame. BTW Tweed did REALLY well at his agility competition today - brought home 4 rosettes!
Starting new thread.
