Happy new week folks!  Don't foget to check the last few posts of the previous week. Heron posted a photo of a female reed bunting,  AQ saw a "ginormous flock of corellas" (must Google that!),  OG has found a nice B&B for her trip, Alan posted a nifty shot of the changing of the guard at the eagle nest, folks are wondering how Diane is doing with the storm the big storm back  East, and much, much more!  :-)  We had almost 2 inches of rain in Santa Barbara today, which is brilliant.  Still sorting files and likely to be doing so for a day or three to come.  Take care all.

  • Margobird, sorry you are feeling worse. Sounds as if you have a real 'stinker'.  Great to hear about your fieldfare. You may see a redwing next. Even when everyone seemed to be seeing fieldfare in their gardens last month, we didn't see one here. A wheatear was reported on the East Coast earlier this week. Poor thing definitely got it's timing wrong. Should have waited a couple of weeks at least, until our weather improves a bit.

Agree with you about the weather. Snow is just sitting here, no thaw and we have just had a light snow shower !

  • Surprised to hear that you still have the snow 'just sitting here' Brenda H.  We have a few little bits of frozen snow in corners in the garden, but of course you all had much more of it than we had, still, I expected it all to have gone by now. Shows how cold its been at night.

Fought by several means to try & get on here today, but have only just managed to prise the door open!

Margobird:   So sorry to hear that you are having a rotten time, what a bad winter you are having: you will be glad to see Spring which I'm sure is only round the corner.

OG:   How exciting collecting your new car- glad to hear it seems OK.  I know what you mean about the problem of finding places for things in the car, they are all different and you have to readjust your habits sometimes to fit everything in!   Hope you all enjoy it, and have many happy hours of travel.

DjoanS:   Great pics of the GH Owls and their dinner!  thanks.

For anyone who likes elephants, here is a funny link:

Do you remember that funny tune, the 'Elephant Walk' ?? , years ago now....  Makes me think of that.

  • Dunedin ospreys have been getting a decent feed:

  • Lindybird,  Our garden is like a Chritmas card but we did have  6" so didn't expect it to thaw in 24 hours. A friend who lives in the NW has just rung me and told me to look at the weather warnings for next Tuesday, which at the moment does not include us, but is for heavy snow for most of the UK. Forecast will, no doubt, change a few times before then.

  • Two Harbours bald eagles at Santa Catalina Island in California preparing their nest:

  • Thanks Alan. They are so tiny. Rather like a game of  ' Spot the (ball)  chicken. '

  • Great pics once again, Alan.  Here is one to cheer everyone up, of a bit of blue sky & sunshine this morning on my forsythia bush:

  • Hello everybody – had difficulty getting back on after my midday post when others were managing it – still slow.  Sunny day – peachy coloured sunset right now – still bright (5pm).  Rain? Snow? Haven’t seen either for ages!!

Thanks DjoanS for Owl handover pics – and Alan for Osprey feeding time and Bald Eagles nest building.

BrendaH – like you, our “chicks” never lived in this nest, but Son lived nearby before losing job and moving in with Dau#1, so stuff was dumped here on the way.  I think both girls have all their things, but the occasional bed surround, table, dishwasher etc migrates around England/Scotland according to need!

Gary – hope you have enjoyed your “normal” day – I don’t think we’ve had one of those since OH retired, but variety is the spice of life, they say!

Margobird – sorry to hear your cold is still bad – do wrap up when going out to the birds – I know you don’t want to neglect them, but don’t take any risks with your health.

Lindybird – just trying your link to Elephant and it seems the whole web is slow today – waiting for page.  I know our broadband is sometimes slow but this is ridiculous!  …got there … interesting, and at one point elephant seemed to have three feet not carrying weight on the ground – which means all its weight on just one leg!!  Thanks for Forsythia bush – ours is not yet out, but Snowdrops are looking good – including some bought from Cambo last year.

    Hope this will post successfully!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Alan    I wonder if that is the eagle that has two wives?

  • Hi, all. Does anybody need a raptor fix this afternoon? I was checking the Indianapolis peregrine falcon site to see when the season will begin, and I happened across this video of last summer's juveniles. The first part of the video is Kinka, a female, trying to summon up the courage to fledge. The second part shows a very hungry Sully, the male, being fed by mum KathyQ, whom I think is trying to teach him some aggression. I just thought it was kind of fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3YQpclFGrA&feature=related     Also, here's a great picture of a peregrine falcon in a dive.   http://www.flickr.com/photos/jimsullivan/1845559013/

Hope everyone is having a good day. Couldn't get on the site 'til now. Feel better Margobird. Oh, here's the Indianapolis Falcon Cam site, for new people: http://blogs.indystar.com/falconblog/   One of the falcons is on the ledge cam right now. 5:53 PM UK time. I think it's Kinney, the resident adult male.
