Happy new week folks!  Don't foget to check the last few posts of the previous week. Heron posted a photo of a female reed bunting,  AQ saw a "ginormous flock of corellas" (must Google that!),  OG has found a nice B&B for her trip, Alan posted a nifty shot of the changing of the guard at the eagle nest, folks are wondering how Diane is doing with the storm the big storm back  East, and much, much more!  :-)  We had almost 2 inches of rain in Santa Barbara today, which is brilliant.  Still sorting files and likely to be doing so for a day or three to come.  Take care all.

  • Good morning Wednesday – very bright but frosty.  Forgot to mention, joiner completed fixes in wetroom yesterday – now all done as we decided not to have the floor taken up and risk damage to heating wires – we can wipe away the puddle after use, and when we’re past that, it will be time to move on!

Alicat – thanks for Owlet news.

Gary – hope the winter storms don’t hit you too hard – make sure Clover is wearing her warmest coat with her new shoes!!

Diane – I hope the winds will abate and minimise the drifting – hope the new furnace is working well and will keep you and Dad warm.  What wonderful flowers your trumpet vines have!  Must look amazing climbing through the trees in the wood.

Hi, Annette.  Will the rain have made ground too wet for weeding the rosebeds?  Or maybe it dries very quickly in the heat of the sun?

Done some ironing, now working towards early lunch to go fetch new car this afternoon – OH is cleaning the previous one to hand back – I think we get a wee bonus if it’s in good condition.  Son will be travelling back by train from Grantown to his sister’s today – signed for the flat yesterday afternoon and now working out what he will need to pack.  Next time he goes, it will be in his car with essential luggage (probably four guitars, mandolin and two amplifiers!!!) and then his B-i-L and a friend will follow with as much furniture as he thinks he can fit!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • It is snowing quite steadily this morning and sticking, but the forecast says, the' real snow' doesn't arrive untill tonight. It will obviously be nothing like that being experienced by Diane & Gary and all those poor people, who still have the snow from the last storm. Hope you both stay safe and warm.

Thanks Annette for that vivid description of the whale count and details of the binoculars you use. As I have no 'sense of direction', I am sure I could make use of them.

Thanks for all the news and pictures. I must start some HW. !!

  • Mornong Diane my word you are getting some really harsh weather at the moment.  Do keep warm and safe won't you.  Our weather forecasters are saying there will be snow in parts of the UK again and the weather looks as though it is going to stay cold right up to the weekend.

Went to hairdressers yesterday and got absolutely frozen.  I have a hairdresser who I have been going to for over 20 years which was OK from where we used to live.  It is now an hour each way on the bus but I really like the way she does my hair and don't want to change.  I wondered why I felt so cold and and my joints were aching and just put it down to being so cold.  Last night I had an awful sore throat and this morning have got up feeling a bit under the weather having caught my OH's cold.  Nice of him to share it with me.  I only had a cold a little while ago so didn't expect to go down with another one.

At the moment I have the Lily bear cam on and the little cub is making those lovely little noises as she is being fed.  She really does have a strong pair of lungs when she gets going though.  I am amazed at what we can view via the internet.  All the new cams that have been put on by other people on this chat and ospreys are not even here yet.  Goodness knows how I will find the time to keep up to date with everything.  Housework will have to be done at breakneck speed in the mornings.

Have a good day and will be thinking of you in all that snow.

  • Good morning Gary and I do hope you are now snowed in.  The weather all over the world does seem to be to the extreme at the moment.  It is very cold here with snow showers forecast.  I have gone down with the cold that my OH has had and feeling a bit under the weather so I will not be going out today other than to keep the bird trays topped up with food.  They will be hungry and will probably have to top them up at least 3 times during the course of the day.

Couldn't believe how much snow they had in Washington when I saw it on the news.  Roads were more or less deserted.

Hope Clover keeps nice and warm with her blanket and appreciates her new shoes.

Have a warm and good day and take care.

  • Alan thanks for the link to the Dunedin ospreys being fed.  So looking forward to seeing the same at LG.

Morning Margobird, I am sure Gary will have a good laugh at the above message and will know exactly what you mean.  Sorry you are feeling full of cold again.

  • Gary I posted to you and said the following in error:-

I do hope you are now snowed in.  It should have said not snowed in.  Sorry.

  • Morning everyone from TI,

Margobird : I am so sorry that you have the cold. I hope that you stay in and keep warm. I have been very fortunate this winter to not have any colds so far touch wood.

Brenda H : I think you mentioned the other day that the snowdrops were flowering down your way. The ones in our front garden came out yesterday so spring seems to be heading northward inexorably.

I have just been watching the eagles on the Estonian webcam and one of the hooded crows was pecking at the eagles tail feathers. Talk about fearless the eagle is about 10 times the size of a crow.

We have just had a shower of what looks like hailstones but the sun is out again.
