Happy new week folks! Don't foget to check the last few posts of the previous week. Heron posted a photo of a female reed bunting, AQ saw a "ginormous flock of corellas" (must Google that!), OG has found a nice B&B for her trip, Alan posted a nifty shot of the changing of the guard at the eagle nest, folks are wondering how Diane is doing with the storm the big storm back East, and much, much more! :-) We had almost 2 inches of rain in Santa Barbara today, which is brilliant. Still sorting files and likely to be doing so for a day or three to come. Take care all.
Oh! Watching the little ospreys makes me go all broody for our little family, can't wait for them to return. What a big nest! they look almost lost in it.
Watched the other eagle cam, the one by the sea, they have a lovely view there. The baby Hummingbird looks a little stronger today. Hope the weather is kind for it.
Annette: We have some perks from being, both of us, self employed & working from home- so when we wanted to semi retire, we chose to stop working on Saturdays & Mondays as previously we only really had Sundays off. One of the downsides is that people still ring us up at all hours, although I do sometimes put the Answerphone on, to get some peace. Also get all kinds of weird business offers, could write a book about it. Hope the 1st day of the whale watching went well.
Off now to sort out some bits of paper & make some phone calls, myself. Night All.
Hello Monday – sorry, AQ and Wattle, I know it is your Tuesday (where is Wattle, has she left us?). Bright but only about 5 degrees here today. All those good wishes and good vibes were fantastic, thank you all – I took an antihistamine to dry up my dribbling head last night, and slept really well – only woke up three times in the whole night! Got a tight chest today (muscles pulled while sneezing Sunday), but not coughing, so feeling good. Been to the optician for two-year check-up – my eyes have improved even more - I wore glasses from age11 to about age 57, but no probs now. OH said we had to go to the Coffee Lounge since it is right across the street from optician, so had my decaff latte and carrot cake (surprise, surprise!). Lots to read through since last evening, so will try to be brief.
AQ – very artistic cake from Miss 14 and friends! Good that she celebrates with family including her Great Grandmother. Happy that Lizarda the skink is still around – maybe she’s been producing Lizardettes while you weren’t seeing her?!! Wood Mouse crept out between bags of sand etc parked on deck this morning – took bits of dropped bird food and scuttled back – several times! OH has put humane trap out, so when we get her, she will be emigrated to the countryside – don’t mind one, but don’t want to risk a family!! Thanks for bathing Honeyeater pics.
Caerann – thanks for strumming finches! Wedding jollies are called receptions in UK too – when the Bride and Groom receive their guests – but often these days seem to include lots of extra friends who don’t attend the actual marriage ceremony.
Diane – sorry you have furnace trouble – hope the man was able to fix it. If my maths is correct, you were up very early in the morning! Later – see you are having a new one – is US “furnace” equivalent of UK “boiler” – ie to heat hot water for taps (faucets) and circulating water for heating?
Alan – sounds like plenty of spring activity elsewhere – not long now for our favourites! If spring moves gradually up the UK, does that mean Rutland Osps arrive before Loch Garten’s?
Lindybird – one happy dog - lovely!
Everyone – enjoyed all the news/chats/observations – and thanks again for good wishes.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Just looked in on Phoebe and Sassy - Phoebe's jewel-like colours were so perfect in the midday (I think) sun - and even Sassy is looking more like a bird today, and definitely growing at last.
Lindybird : Forgot to say great doggy picture.
OG : I have also been watching Phoebe and Sassy and I agree that the colours are really beautiful and that Sassy is getting stronger.
Last year the Welsh ospreys arrived first. EJ was in fact earlier than the Rutland birds.
Annette No I posted a link to the first feed of the Dunedin osprey chick. Then I realised that it had already been posted by Alan earlier. So nothing missed. It would be good if the delete button stayed up a bit longer.
Tiger Signature
Lindybird That is a wonderful picture.
Lindybird What a lovely doggy picture. Was a stick or a ball being awaited? That would get attention from 3 of my 4!

Hi, OG. Hope you're feeling much better. To answer your question: No, they are different systems. My furnace is the unit that heats the air, and it runs on propane gas. There's no water involved; it's "forced heat". I don't go near it, because I'm deathly afraid of propane. :-) My electric water heater is the unit that heats the water. That's the unit that soaked my laundry room floor a while back, because it had an old, eroded copper pipe that broke. So we have separate units for air and water. Folks in the midwest US don't usually use boiler systems like yours, I think because lead/iron pipe is very expensive here. Thanks for your sympathies. :-)
