Could he come originally from Glaslyn and be related to Monty?
Well it seems I've got it wrong with the 2 dots under the wing. I must be confusing him with another bird, there was a photo last year of this bird and it had a couple of dots under its right wing, I'm sure. Anyway we can safely say 2 dots has his dots above his beak.

All the Glaslyn chicks have been ringed, patily - so neither Monty nor Dai Dot is a Glaslyn bird. The theory is that Monty could be the single (unringed) chick from the first successful nest near Welshtown in 2004. The male at that nest was another translocated Rutland bird - but not, as far as we know, related to either Nora's dad or the Glaslyn male (Roy has never revealed the origin of most of the translocated birds, although we know the same 'donor' nests were often used in successive years).
As they aren't ringed, there is no firm evidence either way - that chick could just as easily be Dai Dot. Or they could both be from Scottish nests - which is really the most likely possibility, statistically speaking. I must admit I like to think of Monty as the Welshtown chick, but scientifically, that really isn't supportable.
The origins of Monty are unknown. Some people think that he might be the chick that fledged from the Welshpool nest in 2004. His parents were 7 (97) from Rutland and Red 7J whose origins are slightly confused. I cannot put my hand on "Life of Ospreys" by Roy Dennis just now. But I think it is page 159 where a chap from the MWT is trying to reach the nest using a cherrypicker. He did not succeed and the chick escaped ringing. Now whether that chick was Monty or not we may never know.
As far as I know the Rutland chicks were DNA profiled. So in theory the link with Monty could be proved.
The other intriguing question is whether there is a connection between Monty and Henry who was also famous for his orange eyes.
Probably at least one PhD's worth of research there, most likely ten.
