Hi everyone. Happy Sunday! As usual, check out the last few entries of the previous week's chat to find out who left a plant at the supermarket checkout counter and ate a bag of chocolate donuts for lunch.
Brought Oro for home visit today; was lovely and sunny and daughter sat in the garden feeding him treats. He had a little snooze and then while my daughter took a nap Oro and I went to the beach and walked along the grassy area behind the sand for about a mile or so. (No trash cans to crash into!) Marvellous afternoon with brisk breeze and big surf, but now they're forecasting more rain for Monday through Wednesday!
Tiger Born and 'rared' as they say here, in Belfast but have lived in Newtownards for nearly 40 years. Where did you live?
Margobird In my youth I was in the Royal Observer Corps at its Lisburn HQ which was part of the military complex. We may have been in close proximity while defending our country! Another of the coincidences.
hi sue c, Alan ,

Auntie – thanks for picture of Sea Eagle in the City!
Margobird – Pied Wagtail was a very persistent visitor this morning – hope he finds a Mrs – most of them seem to live in our small town centre which is usually one degree warmer than here!
Annette – who taught G’Daughter to knit? I had to learn from my Grannie – although Mum could knit, she couldn’t teach me, so I learned knitting from one Grannie and crochet from the other! Have tried to teach both Daughters, but neither of them ever took to it.
Diane – yes, agree with Annette – what were you doing on your sink? Or did you mean at the sink (ie washing up big-time??!!
George – plenty of eating places for next time we visit Fife – thanks!!
Alan – hope you and Thunderdog Hamish enjoyed your walk on the sunny side!
Heron – same as you, minus 1 this morning then just dreich – but it did get up to 6 degrees! Loved your weather commentary!
Nothing much happening here today so caught up on correspondence, answering Christmas letters. Hope everyone has had a good day.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
EVENING ALL
MARGOBIRD.........Baby Rhino, what can I say??? GORGEOUS As for the orphaned donkey, poor wee thing. As someone else said there are not enough hours in the day for watching all video links. I too was in the Army to do my Nurse Training. I thought I would join the Army, do my training and see the world. Well I did my training, which was great, but didn't see the world. In fact, I never moved from Woolwich, London. But I have seen bit of the world : when I left the Army I went to America and from there I went to Paris....O La La!!! More about them later.
CAPT.P and THUNDERDOG.........hope you enjoyed your walk. Love the Boars, what are they eating? Have signed petition.
HERON77.........What a fight Sunlight put up, but as Captain P says, it will be much easier for him when Spring comes along.
Maureen
Maureen: Thanks for signing the petition. Food for the boars is grain and potatoes. For roe deer , there is a hay feeder.
Unknown said: Thanks Paul for the blow by blow account of todays weather. I think the sunlight will have more chance when the return bout comes up in the spring. Sue C : I go along will all your comments re the daily and weekly threads. And now for a more serious subject. On the French migration site there is a link to a petition to stop the illegal killing of protected birds in Malta. I have signed this petition and if you want to sign here is the link: http://www.migraction.net/index.php?m_id=1164#N449

Everything in life is speaking in spite of its apparent silence.
Tish : Thank you for signing the petition.
Annette – So the recent problems are because one of the servers is a "morning person". LOL. I was thinking the same as Sue C that we need a Daily chat for minute-by-minute (!) accounts of the ospreys and a Weekly one for our wide-ranging, educational, entertaining chatter.
Liz – It is 7.25 am Friday morning in Adelaide. Another hot sunny day, expecting 30 C (it was 15 C at 6 am). The public ride in the Tour Down Under is a regular part of the event. Also there was a children’s ride - half an hour on the city street circuit in the morning of the last day. Our 12-year-old grandson took part.
I watched Murray’s win at the tennis last night. Much annoyed as the evening telecast is delayed half an hour so they can broadcast a soapie. A few days ago they cut the telecast of Federer’s match for the news. Then I discovered on computer I can hear the radio plus see the live scores posted. Of course they do show the rest of the match later, BUT they have already given the results in the news. Bleah!
Himself has been feeding 2 broken-beaked magpies. Now a third has joined the free feed. This one has both beaks broken. One of them comes carolling outside our front door early in the morn (sometimes too early) and/or late afternoon.
I've signed that petition as well.
O.G. Knit and crochet has been enjoying quite a renaissance here in the past 3-5 years or so. I took up both in 9 or 10th grade and then didn't get back to it until briefly in the 90s and I've been keeping up with crochet mainly ever since. Am making a large multi-hued blue crocheted blanket for my folks as an Xmas gift for this year. Gosh in my unemployment I've also taken up beading (necklaces) in addition to birding. =O)
A.Q. How sweet you and your OH are to feed those poor magpies! =O) The world definitely needs more folks like you.
Time now is 3:15 p.m. and I have a Mourning Dove on the wire outside my window as I type.
