Weekly Chat, Sunday, January 24 2010

Hi everyone. Happy Sunday!  As usual, check out the last few entries of the previous week's chat to find out who left a plant at the supermarket checkout counter and ate a bag of chocolate donuts for lunch.

Brought Oro for home visit today; was lovely and sunny and daughter sat in the garden feeding him treats. He had a little snooze and then while my daughter took a nap Oro and I went to the beach and walked along the grassy area behind the sand for about a mile or so. (No trash cans to crash into!)  Marvellous afternoon with brisk breeze and big surf, but now they're forecasting more rain for Monday through Wednesday!

  • Thanks for the picture auntie mind how you go.

  • patriciat  my first posting when I was in the Army was to Lisburn in N. Ireland.  My everlasting memory is of how green it was everywhere.  Spent a very pleasant 6 months there.

  • original goldfinch I am watching Andy Murray match, I think he has a fight on his hands at the moment.

I will be doing the Garden Watch on Sunday but probably after I have done their food.  they seem to know when we want to count them by being noticeably absent.  Have just realised what a lot of tree sparrows we have at the moment, the cold weather must be something to do with it I think.

    Have a good day.

  • Good morning Lindybird this is just so cute, just wonderful how animals can care for a different species.

I know many of us are not keen on zoos but Blair Drummond Safari Park in Scotland have a rhino cam and Dorothy gave birth just before Christmas to a lovely baby girl.   She is so cute especially when she starts charging round the pen. Very amusing to watch link as follows:

I think the safari park is part of a breeding programme as these magnificant animals are endangered.

    Have a good day.

  • Good morning all - we saw the sun briefly this morning - but it hasn't re-appeared :((

I too have been watching Michael Portillo's train journeys ... very interesting. I have also been watching some train journeys on Sky Travel channel - train trips in USA and one in Australia - they have been on during the night so I recorded them to watch at a more convenient time!

I said I wasn't going to do any more sorting and moving around for a few days ... BUT ... I went into a cupboard for something ... and just seemed to start again :)) I was doing it while the tennis was on so it wasn't too bad!

Thanks to everyone for links and pics and chat

    Take care

  •  Very early morning all; just up for a tiny bowl of granola, then back to sleep.

Tiger: Fab shot of poor mugged puffin. What thugs those gulls are!

AQ: Heard via daughter last night that granddaughter (age 21) has taken up knitting, which seems to be enjoying a revival among younger generation.

Auntie: Wrap up warm; can't imagine that kind of cold along with flying needles. Ouch.

Diane: Thanks for locating Patriciat. But working on your sink? And all night? Were you installing a new one?

Welcome back Liz.  You raise a good point about the frequency of the blog and one I intended to ask others about (which is why I'm bolding this sentence).  Early last season, we could only post to "Richard's page" - the main blog where Alice posts updates on Rothes, etc.  That page is monitored by LG folks and only updated a few times a day, when they have time.  Toward the end of last season,  RSPB revamped the site and we were able to chat in real time on what was then called the Daily Update. When we were posting to the Daily Update, ,EJ/Odin and chicks were all at the nest, there was much counting of daily fish deliveries, who was bringing them, who was eating them - and many more people were participating on the site.  Once the chicks, EJ, and Odin left, the number of participants dropped and we went to the current Weekly Chat format.  Given that things will likely get much busier, chat-wise, once we have ospreys again - and presumably more bloggers - I was wondering if and when we should return to the Daily Update (how many pages would the Weekly Chat, which is currently at 10 pages this Thursday morning,  go to with so much going on?) . That raises the next question: Do we also post news of fish deliveries, etc., to 'Richard's page"" which is slower to update and frequented (or it was last year) by more serious osprey fans who weren't always interested in the kind of chat we indulge in here.  Have I made this more complicated than it needs to be?  Sure would appreciate views on what might be best.

I'm about to hit the Post button and it's 4:04 California time.
