Hi All. Don't forget to check last page or so of previous week for all the latest! Granddaughter made excellent time to AZ - got there at 4 p.m. our time - an 8 hour ride with minimal (comparatively speaking) traffic through LA early this morning. Thunder received hysterical greeting from Pepito, tiny noisy companion who wondered where Thunder had gone but was much too noisy and excitable to bring along. Brought Oro home for successful visit after which I went on a hunt-and-scoop mission to clean up yard after two large dogs. Oh fun! Daughter and I watched Wallace and Gromit DVD (the "were-rabbit" one) - a hoot. OH and I just remembered we have tickets for Charlie Rose (PBS interviewer) this evening so have to hose myself down, prop open my eyelids and try to stay awake for another few hours. Why do these things start at 8 p.m.?!
Thanks Alan for reminder re Phoebe (keep reminding us since I'm so busy running and fetching); four big storms due this week with threat of flooding, high winds, power outages. Sounds like real weather!! TerryM: Will pass on gerbil story to hamster! Lindybird: All hankies put away now! :-) Congrats on the redecorating and dibnlib: I'm with you from now on - hire the folks who can do it in half the time (at four times the cost, yes, but....)
Off to comb hair and make self presentable. Have a nice Sunday all.
OG Great photos of Robert the Bruce. Think Alan got muddled and thanked me for them. I've done that myself sometimes. It can be hard to keep up with who has done what
Thanks Tiger, I never tire of seeing the starlings formations before roosting, but I am afraid it has always been on film. I really must make the effort to see and hear them for real.
Apologies for confusion over my last post. I have edited it.
Morning all. Rain has started here already - wasn't expected until this evening. They call this particular weather pattern the "Pineapple Express" which means one lot of energy coming up rom Hawaii combined with a wave of storms from the northwest Pacific.
Diane: The Charlie Rose event wasn't a taping, but a talk by him. It was held in the "historic" Arlington theatre, which has not enjoyed the spectacular $60 million refurbishing that the nearby Granada theatre just went through. Anyway, the show started 30 minutes late; they introduced Rose, who immediately apologized and said the teleprompter wasn't working, so he had to wing it with the result that he seemed a little unfocused. Turned out the teleprompter wasn't the only thing that went wrong - he had some video clips of his shows, which either didn't play, or played badly. So all in all, a pretty frustrating (and expensive!) event. Thing is, there were some technical snafus when Wait, Wait..... was there, so OH and I have pretty much decided to avoid that venue. Not to mention the fact that it's not airconditioned and gets stuffy even in winter! So came home later than expected and then couldn't figure out how to put the heater on in this pesky rental car!! The a/c kept blasting on. More than you wanted to know, right!! :-) Bison sounds like a sweetie; glad he had his moment with that squirrel. Can't remember Creature Comforts. Not related, but did love Cold Comfort Farm ("there's always been Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm!").
OG: Congrats on being the first UK blogger of the week! :-) Phoebe's owner was probably clearing out the gutters in preparation for the week's rain - my OH spent the best part of yesterday doing that.
dibnlib: Poo patrol eh? No matter what you call it......
Alan: Thanks for photo of Lily! Another site to check out. Sigh.
Going to run away to Costco today for some peace and quiet! :-)))
Take care all.

Lily is so sleepy:
Good morning/evening, All! Like quite a few others, I've been reading and not posting for a few days, so it's about time I joined in again. We're haveing short cool spell here. It was 12 degrees C this morning, with a cold wind blowing, and expected to be 10 degrees C tomorrow morning. I'm actually sitting here typing this in winter PJs AND a dressing gown! We're only expecting a max of 20 degres C today, but by Thursday or Friday it'll be back up to 38 or 39 degrees. I might actually be tempted to do a bit of ironing in the cool today!
Smiles, Jan.

Isn't the tennis starting today?

Annette - a flower for you after all you've been through last week (and you don't have the effort of putting it in water!).
This is my stupid Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) which was refusing to grow throughout the late autumn. I planted it in October as usual. It suddenly started to grow its bud two weeks before Christmas and the stem grew up very fast, so being what we thought was a short-stemmed one we still thought its fat buds might open for Christmas. It then proceeded to grow another metre before the first bud opened last week! It now has four flowers.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Hi everyone.A happy new week to all. The weather here is a considerably less dramatic 7C. I hope there's still some sun block, lying around the house. ;-)Annette: Glad your granddaughter made it to AZ in good time. I don’t envy your poop & scoop mission, and I still find it amazing that the tiniest dogs tend to have the noisiest bark.Diane: That’s a great story about the wildlife friendly dog. Bison sounds like a monster of a dog. A friendly monster of course, although perhaps not for that squirrel. LOL.Alan: Garden centres can be very surreal at this time of year. I worked in one during 2007, in the plant area. I started the job at the very end of January and for about a month people buying plants were very few and far between. It’s quite funny when you get told that plant sales are up by about 500% in comparison to the same day the previous year though. Thanks for posting the photos of Lily the black bear.OG: Thanks for posting the pictures of Robert The Bruce. Fantastic images.Tiger: Thanks for the link with the starling roost film. Those sorts of images will never lose their magic for me.Wattle: I hope you enjoy the cooler weather while you get the chance.
Paul.
