Hi All. Don't forget to check last page or so of previous week for all the latest!  Granddaughter made excellent time to AZ - got there at 4 p.m. our time - an 8 hour ride with minimal (comparatively speaking) traffic through LA early this morning.  Thunder received hysterical greeting from Pepito, tiny noisy companion who wondered where Thunder had gone but was much too noisy and excitable to bring along.  Brought Oro home for successful visit after which I went on a hunt-and-scoop mission to clean up yard after two large dogs. Oh fun!  Daughter and I watched Wallace and Gromit DVD (the "were-rabbit" one) - a hoot. OH and I just remembered we have tickets for Charlie Rose (PBS interviewer) this evening so have to hose myself down, prop open my eyelids and try to stay awake for another few hours. Why do these things start at 8 p.m.?!

Thanks Alan for reminder re Phoebe (keep reminding us since I'm so busy running and fetching); four big storms due this week with threat of flooding, high winds,  power outages. Sounds like real weather!!  TerryM: Will pass on gerbil story to hamster!  Lindybird: All hankies put away now!  :-)  Congrats on the redecorating and dibnlib: I'm with you from now on - hire the folks who can do it in half the time (at four times the cost, yes, but....)

Off to comb hair and make self presentable. Have a nice Sunday all.

  • Some great winter landscapes in the Galleries recently.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

Hi Diane I am glad you like the superlink. I am sure you will find a few owl cams in there. I have got a few other superlinks too. I will make them available when that one has a chance to be digested!

I am glad people have inenjoyed it. I repeat it so that people who have not seen it know what I am talking about. See http://home.pages.at/nadt/index.htm?lang=en&daylightMap=1

Thanks for that link, Tiger - I've bookmarked it for later perusal. where on earth do you find all this stuff?

BTW are you looking forward to Feb 14th?

  • Diane I so agree about housework!  Thank you for asking about Fly.  Sadly, she has been diagnosed as having arthritis in every joint of both forelegs, so isn't allowed to do Agility again - she won't mind that!  From her point of view, the bad bit is not being allowed to chase a ball or a stick, her absolute favourite.  But she's allowed to walk as much as she likes, which is good.  She has medication to keep her comfortable.

OG Yes, we have a competition this month, weather permitting!  We have an outdoor Winter League, which was snowed-off in January, so have to try to fit in two heats on one day in February.  Some people get their kicks in srange ways, don't they!?

Oh I been running forums for nine years come 1st March. I tend to bookmark anything good. The webmaster of that site posted over at DPOF a few years back. DPOF is where streaming osprey cams began back in 2003. See  http://puleston.osprey.bnl.org/index.php

Sadly the DPOF will not run in 2010. No doubt Dennis and Betty will return but most of the world will not share in the drama of the last seven years.

Here is a tribute to Dennis Puleston, a great osprey lover and the man to whom we all owe so much. See http://www.osprey2005.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/DennisPuleston.pdf

14th February? Anything important happening that day? Valentine's day?

  • PATRICIAT   Sorry to hear about Fly Presumably she is on Metacalm. the dog wonderdrug. Our vet along with Royal Canine are giving a talk on senior dog problems at a local hotel on 2nd Feb. We will go along as Dillon will be 8 in May (nothing to do with the free refreshments of course!!!! )     On dog competitions it is the Aviemore Sled Dog Rally this weekend Our friends will be competing and we hope to go along on Sunday. At the moment conditions are very bad so there is a small chance it will be called off, but probably not.

OG    Think it was you who said that huskies are hardy so you will be pleased to know that Russia, the 12 year old who fractured her leg is getting along very nicely

  • patriciat  so sorry to read that Fly has arthritis and can't chase a ball or stick anymore.  Good that there is medication to keep her comfortable.

  • Morning Lindybird I still can't get over the painted lady butterfly we saw.  I have not had a reply to me email to the Butterfly Conservation Society as yet.  You are just like me OH usually gets all the bird food etc but if I am out shopping I do a bit more on the quiet.  Can't have my birds running out of food.

Weather here a bit warmer today but so dull and rain in the air.  Don't know if there was snow anywhere in the South but have not heard anything on the news.  My OH had to go Havant yesterday and he was amazed to see snow still lying in places.  They were badly hit though with the snow last week.

You are right it is staying lighter a bit longer and it does make you think of Spring.  Just need 2 or 3 deays of sunshine now to dry my garden out.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks to all for various links which I enjoy so much.  I have said ti before but I think I will have to get someone to do the housework etc so I have more time to spend on the computer.

  • Obviously it is Valentine's Day but also the start of the Chinese New Year - The year of the Tiger!!   ;-))

  • Good morning Diane i got to see Pheobe's chick last night and what a little miracle.  When you see things like this it once again reminds us of how wonderful nature is.  Have a good day.

  • Patriciat – I know just how Fly feels!  Hope she goes on being able to enjoy her walks.  Longer days now, so hope you can fit in two heats in Feb – tiring, ‘though – for you if not for dogs!

Dibnlib – so pleased for update on Russia’s progress.  Hope the rally goes ahead – please post a pic if you go to watch.

Margobird – good morning!  Birds here today seem to be anticipating some bad weather – eating like there’s no tomorrow!  Still sunny and mild so far.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
