Weekly Chat, Sunday, January 17, 2010

Hi All. Don't forget to check last page or so of previous week for all the latest!  Granddaughter made excellent time to AZ - got there at 4 p.m. our time - an 8 hour ride with minimal (comparatively speaking) traffic through LA early this morning.  Thunder received hysterical greeting from Pepito, tiny noisy companion who wondered where Thunder had gone but was much too noisy and excitable to bring along.  Brought Oro home for successful visit after which I went on a hunt-and-scoop mission to clean up yard after two large dogs. Oh fun!  Daughter and I watched Wallace and Gromit DVD (the "were-rabbit" one) - a hoot. OH and I just remembered we have tickets for Charlie Rose (PBS interviewer) this evening so have to hose myself down, prop open my eyelids and try to stay awake for another few hours. Why do these things start at 8 p.m.?!

Thanks Alan for reminder re Phoebe (keep reminding us since I'm so busy running and fetching); four big storms due this week with threat of flooding, high winds,  power outages. Sounds like real weather!!  TerryM: Will pass on gerbil story to hamster!  Lindybird: All hankies put away now!  :-)  Congrats on the redecorating and dibnlib: I'm with you from now on - hire the folks who can do it in half the time (at four times the cost, yes, but....)

Off to comb hair and make self presentable. Have a nice Sunday all.

  • Thanks Margobird. I was watching Lily scratching in her den. They reckon 25th at the latest for the cubs birth.

Just took this screenshot of wild boar at sunset on the Estonia cam:

  • Does anyone know how donations for the electricity installation are doing?   Last time I saw a figure they were only half way there and going to have to go some to make target. Fingers crossed they do make it.

  • Thanks Alan will pop in and have a look, I love the noises they make.  Looking forward to Lily having her cub/s as well.

  • Afternoon all

Just been catching up on all the chat from the weekend ... I don't know where the time went ... busy doing not a lot, but it just disappeared :))

I, too, am loving the Lily cam and hope she has her cubs ok ... so many cameras to keep an eye on!

Its been a beautiful day here, and in spite of the cold weather we had, I noticed some of the bulbs in the garden are showing through ... roll on Spring.

  • Morning all: Lovely rain here; gray skies; trees and wind chimes blowing; can't see the hills for the low clouds. All very cozy.

Diane: I still can't get moving images at Pete's Pond - I deleted some cookies last week, but figure it should have been okay by now. Maybe I should do a Systerm Restore....

Alan: Marvellous shot of wild boar. Those images seem exceptionally sharp.

Gary: Have a lovely time in the UK.  Where do you fly out of?

Margobird: Thanks for passing on Alice's info about Rothes. Baby Rhys sounds like a wonderful addition to the family.  My daughter's dog got jealous of granddaughter when she was born and actually gave her a little bite at one point, so making a fuss of dog and being aware of "curiousity" level a good thing!   Wonder where Painted Lady spent those cold days!! Do let us know what you hear about that.

dibnlib: Haven't heard anything about latest electricity fund. I know they were trying to get donations from other sources, but don't know if the last figure quoted included that.

    Back later to catch up.

  • Hi everyone.

Believe it or not there is actually sunshine here.  The temperature is about 9C.  There was a fair bit of rain overnight but nothing too dramatic by local standards.  The sunshine is giving the starlings a lovely shine to their plumage.

Starting to feel the beginings of some sort of cold or mild flu type thing.  So I guess I'll have to take things slightly easier than usual.  I'm terrible at taking things easy if truth be told and must confess to battling on many times when I probably should've combined myself to sleeping quarters.  Although the windows in our house are installed so you mostly have to stand to watch the birds and that's a good enough excuse for me.

Caerann:  Thanks for the Derby peregrines link.  It's amazing to see these magnificant birds hunt at night.

Wattle:  I'm not that much of a fan of tennis either.  It's not a sport I dislike, just that if I had a choice between watching that or cricket, I'd opt for watching cricket.  For me a five day test match with a lot of twists and turns is a great sporting spectacle.

Margobird:  I bet you were delighted to finally meet your great nephew.  Sounds like Rhys is a very happy and contented baby.  Amazing story about the butterfly.  I'm also amazed that it could've survived the recent rough weather.  Thanks for news about Rothes.

Alan:  Thanks for the fantastic screenshot from Estonia.  The sunset lighting sets things off magnificantly.

DjoanS:  I know exactly what you mean by time just disapearing.  It seems to happen to me all the time these days.

A very happy Monday to everyone and since I managed to get a shot of some starlings on trees quite near the house...

    Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Good Morning Day on Monday, Monday (can't trust that day)

We have no sunshine here so Alan must have procured it for TI.

Paul: I love the Starling photo! Please take good care of your health.    =O)

Lincoln has posted a wonderful photo series on the Palemale site of a gorgeous Cooper's Hawk chasing a Pigeon.  I actually didn't know they would go after such a large bird, usually Cooper's hang out at/near bird feeders for easy pickings, but I guess when one is hungry the bird goes for whatever might be at hand, er, wing.

I'm off for the day so please take good care, everyone.

  • Heron - lovely starling tree pic, and thanks Tiger for the vid, brill!

OG - we had some good amaryllises last year but OH not good at putting things away and thinks they may have died, not much happening this year anyway  :((

Wattle - I do very little ironing, whatever the temperature, gave it up several years ago (what a lazy person) BUT I do fold things very neatly and pile them into the airing cupboard and that does most things ;))

  • it is tennis for me, everytime. My grandfather was a great cricket fan and tried to explain the game to me without success. Routing for Andy Murray to win the first big tennis event of the year.
