This Topic has been set up to follow the Autumn 2012 migration and wintering of satellite tracked ospreys, other than Caledonia and Alba from Loch Garten, who are followed on this thread, Tracking Caledonia & Alba
This topic replaces Satellite Tracked Ospreys (non-LG) Mar-Aug 2012
N.B. There are still some missing details (and possibly birds) which I will add once the information becomes available.
Latest from Urmas :
"From Erika we got some messages, showing the battery quite empty. Therefore no GPS fixes, but the location on map is of Argos (means not exact). Activity sensor indicates moving.
Could be that transmitter will lost ability to charge well battery. But that is quite normal after sixth year everyday work.
One good news - we found in phototrap (trail camera) installed on some Black Stork nests, that Valdur is not dead in Israel (last positions from 13 of March 2012), but at least arrived to homeland to breed and visited the nest with automatic camera. Previously we did not find him in that nest since 2008. So most probably Valdur is now wintering in Ethiopia, but we are not able to see that!"
BlueYD has ranged quite a bit in the last few days but has not returned to the Senegal river. He is consolidating territory on the Senegal coast near Langue de Barbarie:
Thanks for the information Alan. I did not know that ospreys migrated as far south as Angola (the old 'Portuguese West Africa') - that's quite a journey!
Do any of those birds have Google Earth files we can download?

RtB : There are no kml files available. the Estonian birdmap contains all their movements :

Update in for Ilmari from Finland : No change : Still at Mudeka Creeks in Cameroon as at 18:00 on 11.01.2013 :
Blue YD doesnt look to be in the safest places does he?
Tempo : I think BlueYD is safer on the coast than on the Senegal river if he can establish his own territory. If he can stay until the adults leave he should be ok there. However, Is there anywhere safe in Africa?
I agree on the river as I am concerned on Roy's bird Fiddich which appears to be in an irrigated place. Just concerned on being close to Joe, Leri area and of course we are hoping Einion is ok. I agree that the coastal areas are better but as you say, where is safe? Thanks for the updates.
Aigan : Sadly no more signals.
Fearna : Very settled
Fiddich : No change.
Beatrice and Rothiemurchus no change. No update for Red8T yet.
Thanks Alan - Sad to read that no more signals received from Aigan. The list keeps getting shorter :( Good news about the others though.
