Yes as illustrated by map above Alan. Great news he has been photographed!

Tiger, here he is in flight on 25th no time given. I think it was the second fix yesterday.

EDIT: Yes it was, they go 24th 5pm, 25th to the north east, 25th back south again.

Recently someone asked if the satellite ariel was visible when the bird was flying and at what distance. I appreciate this bird is perched but it does give a fair idea of the situation and more so if you click on the photo which enlarges it. Sorry can't find the actual post. Another point,certainly in the early days, was that the tag reflected the sunlight so you would get a 'flash' as the bird turned much like a mirror used to signal with.

It was me and the query was relative to Blue 44, because  I was curious why nobody had noticed the sat tag on him. Well now they have! That's great.

On another point I have been looking for the Etangs Reserve website, been trying ONF, the French Forestery Oganisation among others without success so far. I understand from faune.aquitaine that the reserve is known as Etang Blanc, Seignosse.

My heart sank when I saw Tiger's post on this page about the scare - what a relief and how wonderful to see him photographed.

Tiger thanks for the info on 5R - who knows and as you suggest worth following - am sure it does happen

As far as I can see the major reseve is called the RNN (Réserve naturelle nationale) de l'étang noir & according to an article in Sud-Ouest newspaper, the directrice is Cathy Ducailar & her assistant is Stéphanie Darblade. L'etang noir is in the commune of Seignosse but l'étang blanc is in 3 communes, Seignosse, Soustens & Tosse. It's possible that the 2 reserves are run by the same team.The article I saw showed them cleaning l'étang blanc of an agressive plant!
