This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.
SueC : I agree about the different colours for Oighrig and Breagh, also think it will be easier to follow all 3 on the one thread. The less threads the better IMO.
SueC I appreciate your updates and I think it looks good for Caledonia and maybe wrong she does not have to go far to catch fish. Not sure but it does look that way :)

I agree on both counts. Part of the interest of tracking is comparing the routes taken by each chick - and for that you have to be able to distinguish them.
Caledonia updated as at 24.07 , 2 points on this date , one on the Guadalquivir and the other 9.83 miles away at the Embalse de Gergal.
Thank you Alan and so pleased she is doing ok and stays safe. So encouraging :)
My thanks too Alan. It is reassuring to know that Cally is doing so well.

Wonderful that she is still doing well. Thank you.
Caledonia updated to 31.07.2013. Some daily trips to what looks like a small man made reservoir to the North West and another to the Embalse del Agrio to the North East.
Sue C thankyou for posting the link showing the school work book to the flora and fauna of the area in which Caledonia is fishing! Would be nice to visit the area one day! Very interesting even though I do not speak Spanish and good that children are made aware of these beautiful birds, and hopeful that the area will be a safe haven for over wintering ospreys! Caledonia seems to be doing very well there. Long may she continue to flourish. Will be interesting to see what she will do next year!
There's a new update for Caledonia, showing 3 points on 7th August. Two at her usual roost/relaxing area on the Guadalquivir, the middle one by a pool on the Riv de Huelva, north of La Algaba (about 4 miles from home).
I will start a new thread for all 3 LG birds soon, before Oighrig and Breagh start to travel further afield.
Edit - I was at Loch Garten last weekend and spoke to Mike (Tracker) who deals with the download and input of data. He said they had sorted out for Oighrig and Breagh's routes to be colour coded, and apologised for the fact that the "colours" had to be brown and black - the last choices in a limited selection!
