Welcome ALL to a new week from chilly Adelaide (4.0 C min overnight here near the beach).
I have for some reson never come to this thread but just browsing and saw this post
I too am not enamoured of the RSPCA Used to break my heart hearing cats crying in a yard of a building across the way from me that was being converted....I am housebound and could do nothing personally.....and then didn't do anything either. In the end I contacted a private cat rescue centre and they caught them, spayed them and found new homes as well as microchipping.
A friend had a similar experience of disinterest a couple of weeks ago when she met a mangy fox. She did make a complaint and got an apology...which was no help whatsoever for the poor fox.
When the guy came from the cat rescue he saidthat all the RSPCA was really interested in now was puplicity
ANNETTE What a wonderfully colourful garden you have, and I do envy you those lovely Hummingbirds.
Sad news from our neighbour. Her husband died in the wee hours of Tues morning after suffering with throat cancer which spread to the brain. He was 59. Both boys were at home as well. Both are in the army, one handy in Edinburgh and the other in Cheltenham. Funeral on Tues. So sad but a release as well.
Sorry about your neighbour, DIBNLIB - how sad, and he was so young. But at least his sons were at home, which can't be easy when you are in the forces. A release, as you say.
Sorry to read of your neighbour's death dibnlib. So young but as you say a release.
Margobird
Afternoon all,
Dibnlib : Sorry to hear about the death of your neighbour.
Annette : Great hummingbird pics. None of them around here but I reckon they would do alright on a day like this. Lovely pic of your flowering garden. The grebe nest is very close to the hide so I was able to get good clear sharp pics. Light was also very good yesterday.
AQ : Never mind Team America and Team Oz we have Team GB as well. I am bored already and it has not even started. However I will be watching selected events but not the opening and closing ceremonies.
Margo : Sorry about Rhys having the mumps. They seem to get all sorts at that age. I read about the cliff fall today and it was a terrible tragedy as well as the landslip at Beaminster.
Linda : I hope you enjoy your trip away and the weather is not too bad.
Thanks to everyone else for the chat etc.
Weather is very hot again today. Latest temp 27.6c and still rising. Took Lady P to the doctors this morning as she has been feeling unwell. It seems she has got a virus and her blood pressure is still not stable. It seems to be one thing after another at the moment. Going to sit in the garden now in the shade with Hamish.
Still looking in, as I pack ...... sorry to hear that Lady P is unwell, ALAN: she has had a rotten time lately with her health. Hope she soon recovers from the virus.
Morning all; Quick look in before I start the day. Can't believe some of you are having what amounts to a heatwave. Maybe there's another hosepipe ban on the horizon? :-)
AQ: Other knee not bad enough? Typical. Re the O***s, there'll probably also be teams from countries who've changed their names since I was in school, (what! No Team Rhodesia!) and "new" countries (think Team Kgyrstzygstan or some such). :-))
Margo: Fingers crossed here for your niece and her OH. I saw the landslip coverage on the BBC website; just awful, but "only" 2 murders is something we'd be thrilled with here where you can't even go to the movies and feel safe (don't get me started). Hard to believe you haven't had a decent orange for eons - are they picking and shipping them unripe? I've heard they "spray" them with color in some places to make them look good - a bit like a bad suntan lotion.
Lindybird: Re g'daughter's situation, "better off" definitely applies here. Off again? Have a lovely time.
patily: Good to see you here! Welcome. Great that you organized a rescue for the local cats, especially with your being housebound - brilliant - but what is going on at the RSPCA that they don't seem to be protecting animals these days.
dibnlib: Oh dear, your neighbor's OH was too young; how very sad. Does his wife have family other than their sons?
Alan: Sorry to read Lady P has now got a virus - nothing to do about those but drink lots of water/fluids and wait it out. Assume they're tweaking her BP meds; let's hope it stabilizes sooner than later.
Take care everyone. I'm off to put on grubbies and tackle the orange tree.
ALAN Get well soon to LADY P, as you say it is one thing after the other.
Really sorry about neighbour. They were here when we arrived 17 years ago. He has been ill for a year now. Her relatives are from the Western Isles. Elder son has been given a lot of time off to help the family and younger son had a few weeks at home then had to go back to base. His Dads consultant E mailed the base saying "we don't know if it is 2 days or weeks but his son must come home". He was stood down immediately and flew back to Inverness in time.
MARGOBIRD Sorry to hear about mumps in the family. Hope all is well for them in the end.
On a lighter note do google Samson the Golden Eagle who was lost during a display and found his way home a week and 107 miles later. Apparently the handler rescued him some time ago and nursed him back to health. Samson obviously knows where he is best off.
Enjoyed a nice walk at he canal this aft. Dillon home soggy and tired.
WENDY For "chippy whips" read left over French fries for dogs, or Dillon to be more specific. Only 4 chips left over from my meal at Luigis. Yes OG Dillons tummy problems seem to have been sorted out. Trouble is that he now has developed a haematoma in his ear. Vets advice is to wait and see and if necessary get an appt for Friday morning. He is a bit like Lady P, it is one thing after another.
Lindy: Hope I haven't missed you. Have a lovely trip away!!!!!!!
