Welcome ALL to a new week from chilly Adelaide (4.0 C min overnight here near the beach).

  • Pix of a hummingbird that likes to sit on an ornamental thingy just about 3ft from the feeder. This little critter doesn't bat an eye when OH and I walk past, but heaven help any other hummer that comes near the feeder - he puffs up and twitters like crazy before zooming off.  When the light shines on his head and neck, his feathers are iridescent scarlet.

    He's snoozing in this one.

  • Fabulous Annette, so lucky to have this little fella visit you.

  • Fancy seeing you here Mary! (Well, just saw you on LoTL).  We have a lot of hummers in the garden - we have two feeders and most of our neighbors have them too, not to mention all the plants that attract them.

  • Not been home a lot Annette this season, but I usually pop in and have a look at all the photos in WC if I do find myself with a little time when home.

They are fabulous little birds to watch (not that we have them in the here) but was fascinated the first time I saw one hover for real life so what a treat it is for you to have them in your garden.

  • This is a shot of our front garden taken back in April. It used to be a really unhealthy, matted lawn!

  • Mary: I swear I've sat in the garden reading and felt the breeze from their wings as they've chased each other around - amazing aeronautics!!  I've never heard of anyone being hit by one, but I keep expecting a head on crash.

Hope you're having a good summer!

  • I'm off to bed folks; have a good Wednesday.

  • OG - Love the scarecrows. I think I shall adopt the Purple poem. LOL

Annette - The other knee is not bad enough, to quote surgeon. Team America? What are you on about? Do you mean there are others going to the O****s besides Aussies?

Hm, clever whales. I read that dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train humans to stand at the side of the pool and throw them fish . . .

Yesterday was a glorious day, max 19 C. It felt hot in the car as I went on a mini expedition photo-ing churches. Today is a different story. We were planning dinner out, but a forecast of rain, wind gusts & thunderstorm has changed our minds. 4pm and the rain has started - coming "down" horizontally.

  • Good afternoon  all and still summer here with higher temperatures every day until the weekend when it is forecast to be cooler.  Far too hot for Billie outside and she finds somewhere cool indoors and just pops out now and again.  By afternoon it is too hot to sit out in the garden even under an umbrella.  Not moaing but we never seem to get a happy medium, temperature could go up to 32 degrees today.

My niece and husband are a bit worried as Rhys has mumps and the doctor said it may be trouble for the baby she is expecing.  They are being very level headed and trying not to be too worried.  Her husband had been unwell last week and they are wondering whether he had mumps, very swollen glands and unusually he had to take time off from work as he felt so ill.  We will be keeping our fingers crossed for them.

There has been really bad news locally over the last couple of weeks.  There have been 2 murders and 3 people have now lost their lives in landslips.  A couple in a car were buried in a landslip in a tunnel and were not found for over a week.  There is going to be an enquiry into this tragedy and then yesterday a 23 year old girl was buried under  a landslide on a beach.  Tragic ends to 5 lives

Wendy  you are good to help with your elderly neighbour.  It is a very difficult situation for you and I found nyself in much the same situation a couple of years ago when my then neighbours both became ill.  They did have 2 daughters but one lived in Canada and the other in France.  I had to call a doctor out several times to them  but in the end my OH said I had to take a step back because that was the only way they would get assistance from Social Services.  I felt so guilty but they did get help and the daughters started to come over more regularly until they both died.  She sounds as though she is living in terrible conditions, even though she has carers, and that poor dog.  Hope the PDSA can help.

patriciat wise words from your late M-I-L and so true.  Great pics especially the glorious sunset.  Bet you have not seen many of those with your current wet weather.

dibnlib you sound as though you are having some great days out with good food as well.  Love the pic of that happy little dog.  Hope your OH's dental treatment will not need a bank loan.

diane poor you can see you are still suffering from extreme heat.  How much longer is it going to go on.  Thanks for the link to the whale story, very interesting.

Alan lovely pics from Manton Bay glad you got a seat in the hide and lovely pics of the Grebe.

Lindybird after weeks and weeks of wet weather it is a real treat to hang washing out on the line again.  I suspect we all do the same and wash just about everything.  I have actually run out of things to wash as the moment or least not enough to justify putting the machine on.  It ill all change in a couple of days, only 2 of us but I do wonder where it all comes from.

Annette so pleased to read that things are progressing reasonably well one he custody front.  I do hope it will continue to be so.  Good to know that your grand-daughter has lots of support from her employer and colleagues as well as from you.  I am so envious when you post about your oranges, can you send some over please.  I have not had a decent orange in years.  What beautiful pics of your humming bird bird, what glorious colours and your front garden looks lovely.

AQ pleased to read you are getting out and about more (weather permitting).  Your weather is a bit changeable though.

Off to get some lunch now so take care all and have a good day.

  • Good Afternoon:    Dull & cloudy here, but very warm, still.  Just been shopping and it was nice to go into the ones with air con.  I am busy packing as we have decided to go away for a few days from tomorrow - should be back Monday or Tuesday.  The weather does not look promising, but in this country you can't let it dictate what you do or you'd never leave the house!

Annette:   What beautiful pics of your lovely little Hummer - he is great.  Also your garden, overflowing with flowers - love it!   Glad that your Grandaughter is coming to terms with her situation, and hope everything works out for her now.  (as usual in these cases, it sounds as if she will be a lot better off without him)

Margo:   Glad that you and Billie have been able to enjoy some of the sunshine, even if it has been rather hot for you both.  Good that your sister is recovering well from her op.  Sorry to hear that Rhys may have the mumps - not much fun and as you say, not ideal when she is pregnant.  At least the little lad is getting it over with, I had mumps as an adult and it was the most ill I have ever been.

Sorry if I've missed anyone out - always read all the posts but been busy and my brain is not what it was!  Take Care, All!
