DAILY UPDATE (LG nest) Sunday 17 June 2012

How many of us are torn between dread and hope for the new day to come?

The peace and quiet of the LG nest is punctuated solely by unalarming chick noises.  Long may that last.

  • Hi there,i'm new to the blog, but hey! no blame can be attached to RSBP staff, or in fact anyone for the demise of the youngest chick. This is nature in the raw and should be accepted as it is. On the bright side LG still have 2 chicks and poor Dyfi centre have only 1.

the best shot is the one you haven't taken yet.

  • Nature at its worst. What can anyone say.

  • Welcome to the forum, Happysnappa :-)

  • Yes I too watched- not good viewing but this does happen. It is only that we are fortunate enough to have wonderful images of the nest, eggs, chicks & behaviour that we know what happened in this case - better than not knowing exactly & just guessing.

Please dont leave or stop watching because of these sad events- remember the great parts too & how much you have enjoyed them.

Ironic that one of chicks pooed directly at camera at just this time though.

    Much love

  • Have been here for a long time, unable to post thru heartbreak and rage :'(

enquiries where taken so out of context ... twisted by many others as not being intelligent enough to know what is happening and to be able to cope with watching - the point was missed both by other bloggers and LG staff

I agree, Lmac, but it's what I've come to expect since the poor communications at migration time.  I have never liked the tone of (many of) the blogs, such as they are, and have called them condescending and insulting before now.  LG staff will never change their attitude if so many our responses are sycophantic.

I have extracted #3's last moments, which I watched with the sound muted.  Whilst there is no direct blame to be apportioned for #3's suffering and death, I couldn't help thinking wryly that "Courtesy of RSPB Loch Garten" was quite appropriate.

  • A lot of people are in a world of hurt and tears right now and it  seems callous of you to  come here and tell us " Cheer Up  only one  chick was just  killed "

  • I don't know if this is appropriate or not but here goes.

One of my happiest memories of Bravery's short life was when Odin delivered a fish and his two siblings got in front of him.  He started to push through the middle but was blocked off.  So with the two larger chicks concentrating on blocking a central manouver, he quickly moved up the left hand side and got fed.

  • valmc probably to cover up it handy work......

  • I can't stay and watch anymore today guys. Partly due to the cruel end of #3, partly as I've had no sleep as I was travelling all night, and now a pooped screen has finished me off. See you tomorrow, all being well.

  • EJ's just sitting there at the edge of the nest.  She must be gutted even if she's not demonstrating it as we are.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
