Hi all: Here's to a problem-free week on the site. Check out the last week's final page or so for updates from everyone, including one from Maureen (HillaryH) who's back with us after a hospital stay due to a chest infection and wants directions to Google Earth. Maureen - assume you downloaded GE before? If not, just go to http://earth.google.com/ and click on the Download Google Earth 5 button at right. I can't remember right now how to load Rothes and Mallachie's route; perhaps someone else will let you know if you need additional info. Glad you're back!
Alan posted a hummingbird link (http://vimeo.com/hummingbirds#8409299) for those who missed it and the week's chat ended with a long post from OG, who'd been composing it for days but was unable to get it on the site due to the techy problems! And no OG, haven't attempted the printer-wireless problem yet; can only handle one techy problem at week it seems!!
Have a nice Sunday all. Let's see if this posts
Auntie and Diane, stay warm!!
I am still having probs with the site today so don't want to put too much in case it crashes!
Hope everyone else is OK
site went down again!
Must be water in the wires somewhere

Is this actually sea which has frozen - or is it a lake do we know?
Son has phoned - his two and a half hour journey took him four hours. Two minor incidents, but nothing wrong with him or car.
Lighter evenings now very noticeable here - but starting to freeze again with dusk now.
OG You can see where Nauvo is in this map. As Auntie says it is the sea that is frozen. See http://people.delphiforums.com/Tiger_mz/Ospreys2010/Map.jpg

I couldn’t log on to blog – again. Just a white screen and a wee message sayong "done". Huh. I typed this waffle this morn at 5.50 am, just before sunrise. Temp was 12 C. I was woken by neighbour going to work at 3.50 am. Tried to sleep but, expecting early visitors, I got up when the paper arrived. At 5 am Dau#1 & fsil arrived. They are off for a holiday interstate on a 6 am plane, leaving their car with us, 5 mins to airport, drive through, drop off, I fumble with unfamiliar car, back home probably before they are checked in! Meanwhile Dau#2 has a work trip – she is flying out at 6.10 am – I won’t see her as work is paying for her taxi.
Diane – Your Dad is welcome to join the queue for tomatoes – they are ripening at the rate of 1 every 2 days. Small ones only. Last year I had a magnificent crop, until the fruit got sunburnt and rotted in the long 40+ heatwave. So this year I am draping with sheets whenever the temp goes over the old century. That doesn’t really help when the flowers keep dropping off.
Lindybird – Our tastes do change as we get older, but mostly I think it is the manufacturers adjusting the recipe either to save money or to remove naughty things like fat, sugar, salt, etc. Cadburys who have a choc factory in Tasmania changed the recipe to include cheaper palm oil. Now they have to change their equipment back because sales went way down. They claim people didn’t like the taste. Perhaps it was also the anti-palm oil campaign that was waged to try to stop the destruction of rainforests in Indonesia which is destroying the orangutangs’ habitat. I don’t like Cadburys anyway. Much prefer Lindt Swiss choc. My grandson gave me a wee box of 5 for Xmas. All gone now and also all other Xmassy treats, so I must do something about the tummy roll that has developed on the tummy roll . . .
Maureen - Welcome back and stay well.
PS I heard both planes take off. Safe journey Kids.
We have our first osprey egg of 2010. The female at Dunedin in Florida is incubating one egg. I just saw it on the webcam and the male came in to try to mate with the female. Very exciting.

AQ, glad the planes got off OK. Nice early start for you.
You don't like cadbury's........ LOL
Thanks Alan, very exciting and checked out the link you gave me. FAB
Lindybird: I used to like Cadburys, but love Lindt - I too got a little box - of three - for Christmas. Just one left! My sister in England likes Green and Black?? or something like that? Alan: Thanks for Florida link reminder Diane: When I was growing up in the UK we had outside pipes that we wrapped every winter; also had to watch snow-laden slates sliding off roofs! AQ: Hope you get some good zzzzzzs tonight.
Unseasonably warm here today; just came in from the garden where I was nodding off in between reading the latest National Geographic which has a lovely photo-essay on the Hebrides; also a depressing story on smuggling of rare species. Off to check out dinner options and what can be prepared early.....
Did someone say Lindt chocolate? Yum!
The Nature series on PBS this evening had a show called, "White Falcon, White Wolf." It had wonderful footage of a gyrfalcon raising her chicks to fledging. The male was a bit of a slacker, and she ended up doing most of the hunting -- flying back to the nest with huge hares. She reminded me of EJ doing her own fishing and carrying such enormous fish. It also had great footage of white wolves, musk oxen, arctic foxes, and a beautiful snowy owl raising her owlets. I don't know whether you folks outside the U.S. can watch this or not. But anyone who can get it would really enjoy it.
Annette: Our plumbing pipes are insulated, so I don't think that they would freeze, but my Dad insists on dripping the kitchen and bathroom faucets just in case. I don't argue with him, because if they did freeze, I would have to get into the crawlspace under the house and thaw them out. I'm pretty sure that there are a couple of Bigfoot, several Prehistoric Beasties, and an assortment of Wild Things living in there. So I have no intention of going in there anytime soon. That's why I just meekly let the water drip. LOL
Alan: Thanks for the osprey link. AQ: My Dad will be the first one in line for those homegrown tomatoes
Diane: I am watching "White Falcon, White Wolf" as I type. Wonderful - here's the link if anyone's interested. http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/white-falcon-white-wolf/introduction/3323/ . Also, did you see "60 Minutes" - the segment on elephant language? Also fascinating. Link to that one is at http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=6050249n&tag=contentMain;contentBody
