Hi all: Here's to a problem-free week on the site. Check out the last week's final page or so for updates from everyone, including one from Maureen (HillaryH) who's back with us after a hospital stay due to a chest infection and wants directions to Google Earth. Maureen - assume you downloaded GE before? If not, just go to http://earth.google.com/ and click on the Download Google Earth 5 button at right. I can't remember right now how to load Rothes and Mallachie's route; perhaps someone else will let you know if you need additional info. Glad you're back!
Alan posted a hummingbird link (http://vimeo.com/hummingbirds#8409299) for those who missed it and the week's chat ended with a long post from OG, who'd been composing it for days but was unable to get it on the site due to the techy problems! And no OG, haven't attempted the printer-wireless problem yet; can only handle one techy problem at week it seems!!
Have a nice Sunday all. Let's see if this posts
lyndab : As we dont live too far apart I am more confident than ever it was fieldfares. Judging by the tracks on the ground there must have been lots of them. They appeared to have been sheltering in and around a hawthorn hedge next to an arable field. Of course Hamish would have to startle them but I could see their colours quite well. Also a first for me. What a co incidence.
FAB
Yes, Alan, these flew from a hedge and over an arable field. Out of the corner of my eye I initially thought pigeons but when I turned my head I realised exactly what they were.
Morning all from sunny Santa Barbara. Sounds like you're all going broke keeping those feeders topped up!
DjoanS: Thanks for the heads up re Richard's note. George: So, no problem believing human teenagers have a lot in common with chimps. Lindybird: Are you back as lyndab with another avatar or did I miss something? Off to shower, etc., etc. Take care and hope all wanderers arrived home safely.
What a coincidence, I was just going to post here that we have had a Fieldfare in the garden, it has been sitting in our apple tree but too shy to come down & investigate our feeders, where there is of course a lot of activity . Have seen it a couple of times but every time I grab the camera. its gone again {sigh..}. We have fields at the rear of our house so do sometimes see unusual birds but this is a 1st.
Alan: georgeg: I watched those 2 programmes last night & enjoyed both of them. The dogs prog. was interesting, but at one point showed some poor silver foxes in cages in Russia, as part of an experiment, which was rather upsetting. However, the rest of the investigations were very interesting, Man's relationship with dogs etc. george, sorry to hear you fell, do take care. Hope things have gone alright today, its not great weather for funerals but these things have to be done: friend of mine buries her father on Saturday. (He died just before Christmas, so it was very sad).
Caerann: Loved the Hawk pics, you were lucky there. I'll send you some fingerless gloves!!
Annette: Fancy seeing a Hawk flying near the car like that, I would have crashed, too.. Hope all is going to plan with getting your daughter home again.
AQ: Thanks for your concern about our weather, although this is a bit of a pain, at least its not as life threatening as yours, fire is such a terrible thing. Keep cool.
Annette, you didn't miss anything, Lindybird is Lindybird and I'm Lynda (B).
Hi, LyndaB! Yes, we're definitely 2 different people, I'm a Linda too but with an "i", and if youre near to Alan, we are not in the same part of the country either...
Male osprey now incubating at Dunedin in Florida. They have just changed over:

Thanks, Alan. That nest looks really high up, the birds must feel pretty safe, away from all predators there.
Female back on egg(s) now at Dunedin. Did anyone see the grass cutter on the fairway of the golf course in the background?
Hi everyone.Caerann: Can't wait to hear about the finish of the Zeppelin biography. Annette: It's a pain typing something out and losing it. Hope all goes well bringing your daughter home.Diane: Don't worry I'm well rested, so the woodpigeons have turned into coal tits. Lindybird: I can't say I blame the rat for eating food from the window bird feeder. But he might've at least had the decency to ask for permission.DjoanS: That sounds like some scary underfoot conditions. Glad you go back from your letter posting mission without any damage.Alan; Lyndab: Great news about the fieldfares. They're fantastic looking birds.Alan: Thanks for the Florida ospery link.Take care everyone and a very happy Thursday.Paul.
