Weekly Chat, Sunday, January 3, 2010!!

Hi all:  Here's to a problem-free week on the site.  Check out the last week's final page or so for updates from everyone, including one from Maureen (HillaryH) who's back with us after a hospital stay due to a chest infection and wants directions to Google Earth. Maureen - assume you downloaded GE before? If not, just go to http://earth.google.com/ and click on the Download Google Earth 5 button at right.  I can't remember right now how to load Rothes and Mallachie's route; perhaps someone else will let you know if you need additional info.  Glad you're back!

Alan posted a hummingbird link (http://vimeo.com/hummingbirds#8409299) for those who missed it and the week's chat ended with a long post from OG, who'd been composing it for days but was unable to get it on the site due to the techy problems!    And no OG, haven't attempted the printer-wireless problem yet; can only handle one techy problem at week it seems!!

Have a nice Sunday all. Let's see if this posts

  • Caerann just got to this post but glad you liked the site.  There will a lot to watch when it starts up again.  I especially liked the video of the storm with one of the partents sitting outside on the platform and the youngsters in the box wondering what on earth was going on.

  • Caerann just seen this post and I am so pleased you like the site.  There will be an awful lot going on when it is up and running again.  I especially liked the peregrine video when there was a terrific storm going on.  One of the parents was sat on the try outside the box and the youngsters inside the box wondering what was going on.  Keep warm and safe.

  • Morning from sunny but very cold Fife, did anybody watch the Horizon programme last night about dogs being mans best friend and the experiments they did with wolves, foxes and chimps and it showed that although wolves are their closest relatives they could not train them even though they were taken into a house from birth and hand reared. It also showed that a dog will wait until it is given a command whereas a chimp does what it wants without paying attention to the instruction. Also the programme before that was about birds of paradise and there antics to get a mate.

Bill Bailey's programme is on at   9pm tonight on Sky1

  • Will do patriciat OH has cleared a path for me to feed the birds.  Having to top them at least 3 times a day at the moment but I am relieved it is not snowing again today so far as all the food froze on the trays yesterday and by the time I had scraped it off and put fresh out I was absolutely frozen, as cold as I think  I have ever been.  Have a good day and stay safe and warm.

  • georgeg : I watched the program on the birds of paradise last night and thought that the colours and the antics of the male birds were amazing. I have recorded the program about the dogs and will watch it later. Also thank you for reminding us about the Bill Bailey program on SKY.

We are having light snow showers here today and accumulations are slight so far. When I was out with the Thunderdog  I saw a couple of long tailed tits in the bushes beside a field near where I live. Also this morning in the same area there were a flock of what I believe to be fieldfares.

  • Ditto Alan - I was taking my car to the garage this morning and saw what I believed to be a flock of fieldfares, the first flock I've ever seen.  I was watching what I thought was a couple of them from the kitchen window yesterday too.  With a backdrop of snow it seems to show birds' colours off really well.
