Hi all: Here's to a problem-free week on the site. Check out the last week's final page or so for updates from everyone, including one from Maureen (HillaryH) who's back with us after a hospital stay due to a chest infection and wants directions to Google Earth. Maureen - assume you downloaded GE before? If not, just go to http://earth.google.com/ and click on the Download Google Earth 5 button at right. I can't remember right now how to load Rothes and Mallachie's route; perhaps someone else will let you know if you need additional info. Glad you're back!
Alan posted a hummingbird link (http://vimeo.com/hummingbirds#8409299) for those who missed it and the week's chat ended with a long post from OG, who'd been composing it for days but was unable to get it on the site due to the techy problems! And no OG, haven't attempted the printer-wireless problem yet; can only handle one techy problem at week it seems!!
Have a nice Sunday all. Let's see if this posts
Hey Diane: What a nice comprehensive blog - you mentioned everyone! I went to visit Oro at the humane society's boarding kennel yesterday. He was in a huge open area with trees all to himself and got very excited when I showed up with his toy. I took him for a nice walk and made a fuss of him, then took him back there. They don't have too many dogs in his part of the kennel right now so he's outside in this large "playground" a lot. I was worried about his being sad when I left, but another dog was in the next yard, and then another dog was put out in the third adjoining yard and all three got into rushing back and forth along the fences barking and carrying on. I'll bring him back to the house for the day on Friday to see his "Mom" (my daughter), although not sure how Thunder (granddaughter's dog) will cope. My husband was also fretting about the cat being upset and I told him she's just going to have to be flexible, like the rest of us. In the meantime Shadow, guest-hampster, is ideal visitor - very quiet and undemanding and pokes her little nose up when you say hallo. Loves blueberry-yogurt treats and sleeps a lot. Take care! Really am off to bed now.
Annette - hope all goes well settling your daugter into your house - and that you can take it all calmly without "rushing" and "whizzing" around. So pleased you saw Oro and that he can make a visit on Friday - I'm sure the cat will remove herself quite happily to your bed!! Happy memories when you describe wee Shadow the Hampster - we had a succession of three Dwarf Russian Hampsters a while back, but nothing cute now.
No extra snow overnight and sun already through today.
Thanks for all overnight posts - and add my thanks to Diane's eloquent summing up of appreciation of all the links, updates and photos!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Oooh! Lots to read here, & I spy some more photos, too. Have not had time to look back, but hope everyone is OK all around the world.
Temperatures here in parts of Cheshire reached nearly -18 overnight, which is surely a record of some sort, I certainly can't remember weather like this here: I have lived in this part of UK for over 36 years & we have never had anything like this. Husband has just set forth on foot, to examine the state of his allotment, as the snow is probably weighing down the nets he put over the sprout plants to keep off the dratted pigeons. We looked out of the kitchen window last night to spy a rat eating some food on our window bird feeder, it didn't even run away when I rattled on the window, it was so intent on eating!
Exciting laundry chores etc. to do, so will pop back in here this afternoon to read all the above, & see how you are all getting on. Take care, All.
Morning all ... have just been on a walking mission to post a letter - I'm hoping the postbox gets emptied today! It usually takes about 5 minutes there and back ... today nearly 20 minutes. I was being ultra-careful as we had another couple of inches of snow on top of the snow/frozen slush.
OG - glad you are ok and it was just data that kept you away!!
Annette - glad to hear your daughter should be home with you today - I love the sound of all the animals - I used to have hamsters - Russian dwarf ones - very cute and no bother!
Diane - hope you are safe in that storm
Thanks everyone else for your interesting and informative chat!
Stay safe- and keep warm/cool whichever applies

Morning all from a sunny but bitterly cold TI,
Sue C : Thanks for the link to the peregrine sattelite tracking project. Most interesting. They certainly travel long distances. I notice that all the birds were adults. It would be interesting to track some juveniles as with the ospreys.
Not a lot going on today. Lady P is nagging me to go out as she has to exchange some dress or other. Cant say I am too enthusiastic.
Current temp -0.7. Sunrise 08:09. Sunset 16:04.
Richard has posted a short comment on the blog
Monring Alan, current temperature here is minus 5 and it has taken me ages to scrape the frozed food off the bird tables and replace for them. They are eating me out of house and home at the moment but I feel I must make the effort for them. Shame you have to go out but take care and keep warm.
Margobird
Morning DjoanS you are brave going out. It is minus 5 here at the moment and very dangerous on both roads and pavements. We live at the bottom of a hill and I was amazed my OH managed to get up it to go to work. Needless to say I will not be going out other than to keep the birds topped up with as much food as possible. I don't think I am going to get the bird baths defrosted thougn. Take care and keep warm.
Morning Lincybird I thought it was cold here in Poole but not as cold as that. I have been keeping my eyes open for rats as we do get them now and again. They make their nest underneath my neighbours shed.. So far have not seen anything but I guess all this cold weather is making them everywhere in the hope they find food. Hope OH gets back from allotment safe and sound. Keep warm.
Thanks Sue C for the links and to all who post photos and links. Have nore than enough to keep me busy until our ospreys return. Hope it warms up a bit by then.
