Hi all: Here's to a problem-free week on the site. Check out the last week's final page or so for updates from everyone, including one from Maureen (HillaryH) who's back with us after a hospital stay due to a chest infection and wants directions to Google Earth. Maureen - assume you downloaded GE before? If not, just go to http://earth.google.com/ and click on the Download Google Earth 5 button at right. I can't remember right now how to load Rothes and Mallachie's route; perhaps someone else will let you know if you need additional info. Glad you're back!
Alan posted a hummingbird link (http://vimeo.com/hummingbirds#8409299) for those who missed it and the week's chat ended with a long post from OG, who'd been composing it for days but was unable to get it on the site due to the techy problems! And no OG, haven't attempted the printer-wireless problem yet; can only handle one techy problem at week it seems!!
Have a nice Sunday all. Let's see if this posts
Thanks for starting this one up again, Annette. A sunny Sunday here - I think it's already beginning to thaw the overnight frost. Son intends setting off about 11:00 am to travel in optimum frost-free daylight hours. His usual route is closed by "weather related incidents" so he's using A69 across north pennines right thorugh towards Newcastle, then the A1 south.
We shall take a large exhalation of breath when he and all his luggage leave, followed by a quiet day. Will miss church to see him off, so may then take down some of the Christmas decorations!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Morning all ... it has been snowing steadily again for the last 2 hours ... I'm taking it badly, as here at the coast, it usually snows and then immediately disappears!
Site hasn't been playing up yet this morning ... have checked a few times and got straight on
OG - I hope your son has a safe journey home
Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

Morning all from a sunny TI for a change.
Maureen: I tried to get back to you last night re Google Earth but the site was playing up and I could not get back on. I think the best thing to do is to follow the RSPB instructions in this link:
http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/tracking/lochgartenospreys/googleearth.asp
Lady P has been like a whirlwind of activity this morning taking down the decorations cards etc. I think I will take down the outside lights tomorrow.
Weather is sunny but the roads are treacherous with lots of black ice about.
Temp 0.1c , Cold , Sunrise 08:10 , Sunset 15:59.
OG Wish your son a safe journey. We have friends who have to travel down to St Monans in Fife tomorrow. Their 12 year old Husky was operated on for a nasty fracture between Christmas and New Year and they had to take her down to an orthopaedic vet , so tomorrow is pick up day. As for us, we have about a foot of snow here. so I am in and out like a yo yo replenishing the bird food. There are cars abandoned at the car park by Culloden shops. I am certainly glad that OH can walk to work. These friends who live at Tomatin say they have 2 feet or more. It looks very nice but becomes a bit wearing after a while. They run their huskies and it is the biggest race of the year at Aviemore this month. Don,t know if they will be hoping for snow as their sled is past its best andd they do their training with a rig.
dibnlib - hope your friends husky makes a good recovery - orthopaedic proceedures are always risky on older animals, but huskys are very hardy. If their sled is a bit past it, they will probably prefer to use the rig for competition, but I would imagine the sled gives a more authentic feel to the whole thing - so long as it holds together! Thanks (and to DjoanS) for the good wishes for our son - we checked the routes online and he's taken the better-looking option, but I wouldn't want to be doing it! We have so little ice and snow here now, that I think he hasn't realised what he might encounter through Northumberland!

Hello. Sunny here, but yesterday's snow turned into slush & then froze so the paths & roads are treacherous. Husband is by the fire, watching Man United again.
(tried to put pic of Dog in here, with snow on his back, but it won't load again... sigh)
Maureen: Pleased you're feeling better after your little hol in Hospital- hope the staff were nice. Agree with you about Alan's new avatar- I always did like a man in uniform!!
OG: Hope that by now you've heard from your son that his journey was OK. It's nice to hear from them when they arrive at destination, my 2 know that I almost sit by the phone till I know they are alright.
Thanks to jsb for those links- won't be skiing myself, although I'm sure if I went to a nearby hill I could do a good impression in just my wellies. The birds are queueing up on my feeders all day today & I'm putting out double of the usual amount; saw two pied Wagtails on my neighbours roof watching but too scared to join in. Last night watched video of "Christmas AutumnWatch Special" & enjoyed seeing some of the best bits again. Best part for me was the end, where there were thousands of Knots wheeling in the sky.
jsb : Thanks for the links and it does look very snowy up there. I think that the ospreys have the right idea going to Africa for the winter.
Lindybird : I am also watching Man U v Leeds U and it is 1 - 0 to Leeds at half time. Just watching the end of Celtic v Rangers on SKY and then back to the Man U game. What would we do without football?

Thanks Lindybird, you have just reminded me to get a new pair of green wellies for pond maintenance purposes!
