Weekly Chat, Sunday December 27 2009

Hi everyone.

Welcome to the final weekly chat of 2009.  Remember to check out the last few posts of last week's chat for the latest posts.

Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Thanks for that description of good ol' Sherlock film, Caerann. Will try to catch it if it comes to our local cinema. Glad you were well enough to go, sorry to hear about yr OH still being poorly. Get yourselves better for New Year & resolve to start afresh!

Emma Peel:   Nice to hear from you again- fancy seeing as many as 20 field fares at one time. Back to work is so boring, isn't it - but enjoy the cheese!  (Husband by the way is with all those of you who love the blue cheese & digestive combo).

Alan:  Canny Scots wheeze to get calendars when they come down in price- but then, they are an exhorbitant price, arn't they, when you think they are only bits of printed paper after all. I usually shop around for one.

Annette:  Like McCall Smith books, havn't got to that one yet, let me know if you enjoyed it (it was on my very long Christmas List but I got mostly CD's, although did get a very funny book from my son, about 'Simon's Cat' who is famous from YouTube. Not complaining about getting lots of music though, as my tastes are very spread, so I got Shirley Bassey, Michael Buble, Norah Jones, Ronan Keating & even a surprise from my sister.in.law:  Susan Boyle!  Husband came up with some music, plus the Life of Ospreys book I longed for & a camera tripod.)

Margobird:  So sorry to hear that your birthday also fell during the holiday, so you havn't been able to enjoy that either:   Tell your brick of a husband that I'm sending him a medal, he sounds so helpful & caring. Get yourself better soon.

Tiger:   Noted your interesting info about osprey predators. Can see now why ospreys are so guarded about their nests when its not just other osps. they have to be careful of.

Getting colder here now, as promised:  we're in for a cold spell again, so keep warm everyone in UK.

  • Annette:   Just looked at your "boozy grandmas" link- I intend to join the ladies as soon as possible! What fun.

  • Caerann, thanks for the review, I'm definately going some time this week:) Hope you and your OH are feeling better

Annette, liked that link, thanks, my mum would qualify but without the grandkids!!!

Enjoyed all the chat as well.

Snowed for about an hour today and turning colder tomorrow

  • Evening all - haven't posted earlier, feeling a bit grotty - cold & cough :((

Have just enjoyed reading everyone's posts though!

Had a look at Phoebe on the hummingbird cam just now - she is so beautiful - when she stays stil long enough for a good look!

Think I might go and forage in the kitchen for a bite to eat - all this talk of cheese and various biscuits and chocolate, (I remember Caramac too), has made me feel a little hungry.

  • A quick visit before Day of the Triffids tonight.

OG – that’s right, I work in Silloth.  I have found that the local petrol station sells Caramac, love it! And Annette, I have tried dark choc Kit-Kat, but I don’t like it. Any other time I prefer dark choc but not this one. I’ve never seen a caramel one, perhaps it’s only Scotland?  Re crime novels, I love Rebus, P D James, Patricia Cornwell, Ruth Rendell. I do hope those hummingbirds are in your garden. You could set up a webcam for us!

Lindybird – I should have said, re stamps, UK and other should be kept separate. Have you looked at the Simon’s cat videos on YouTube, very funny.

AQ – pudding recipe sounds good, we’ll all have to wait until next year now.  I am a cheese lover and I’m with George about the Danish Blue but I have yet to try it with digestives (on my way to the biscuit tin now...)

  • DjoanS:   Sorry to hear you're feeling grotty, its always a good description I think (someone I used to know called it "Having the grots!!").    Hope it doesn't develop into anything nasty.  Phoebe is lovely isnt she, but never stays long. Loved your pic of the snowbird at L. of Lowes at Christmas, by the way.

We just ate the last of the cold gammon, & sent son home today with turkey remains & half a chocolate log so that we can't eat it all ourselves.  Just settling down with the walnuts & the nutcracker. Might have a cold Baileys with ice later... yum.

  • TerryM:  You havn't lived if you havn't tried all sorts of cheese with digestives!! Gorgeous.

Saw the Simons Cat videos on YouTube a while ago, & our family know I love anything with cats in it..

    Night All.

  • Lots of elephants bathing at Pete's Pond.

  • TerryM. Thanks - fascinating. They have the whole pond to themselves and seem to be enjoying it.

  • Amazing images of these elephants. Such a social event by the looks - you'd almost expect to hear the clinking glasses and see one of them wandering by with canapes....
