Weekly Chat, Sunday, December 20 2009

Hi folks: Don't forget to check the last pages of the previous chat for links, comments, and all the usual twaddle.  :-)

" ... ... two collar doves, and a starling in a pear tree" - well, almost.

     Love it. A modern tree!

We are warming up again, 30 C expected today. This week 34, 35, 22 (ooh, cold LOL), 25 (lovely for Xmas Day, 28, 29. Very odd, the elves didn't clean my kitchen overnight. When I've hung out the washing <sigh>

  • The view above my washing line - in case anyone wants to be cheered by blue sky. The clouds will disappear as the day warms (taken about 8.30 am).

  • Hi everyone.

There's not been anymore snowfall in the Glasgow area but according to the UK Met Office site, there's supposed to be snow overnight with gusts of up to 33 mph with very poor visibility.

Gary:  I hope you enjoy the shepards' pie and that's a great picture of the dogs.  They all look so friendly.

OG:  Brilliant pictures of the collared doves and the starling.  In my garden when I put the ground food out it's normally a race between the collared doves, starlings, and jackdaws to see who gets to feed first.

Annette:  On this side of the pond Christmas seems to be starting in the shops earlier every year.  I think it's because the shops tend to work on a seasonal basis with the two main ones being Christmas and summer.  There's Halloween but that's a very small window.  Brilliant comment about the pale-faced man and shaving cream. :-)

AQ:  It's a pity the elves didn't clean your kitchen.  Of course they've not cleaned anywhere in our house for years.  Don't know about Australian elves, but I reckon the Scottish ones are becoming lazy.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Oh, Caerann, so sorry about your nasty cold. I hope you recover soon. I recommend vitamins. I was born in 1957, and I remember making paper chains with construction paper and paste. There was always one kid in the group who would eat the paste! Lovely picture of the horses. I like the white one.

DjoanS: That was a very lovely Christmas card. Very creative!!!

Auntie: I hope your weather improves and your internet sorts itself out. I love reading your posts!

  • aquilareen: Beautiful, bold blue sky!!! Maybe you and I should trade houses for a week. You could cool off, and I could get some sun and heat. Then we would both be glad to return to our own climates. LOL

  • OG and AQ, great photo's, lovely stuff.

OK, I've had enough so off .

Catch up tomorrow, only 5 more sleeps till christmas:)) (well, here anyway!)

    Happy Monday

  • Evening/morning all:   AQ: Lovely photo - but where's the washing?  :-)   Heron: Elves have been falling down on the housekeeping in my house too.

Laptop and printer aren't speaking to each other in spite of my attempts to mediate; and now I can see but not hear my McCall Smith DVD on Botswana. Plugs and connections seem correct and secure; will switch them all off tonight and hope they come to their senses tomorrow.  Have a good Monday all; watch out for all that weather.

  • Annette: I have found that the "System Restore" program can be a beautiful thing. I'm sure that you already know this, but System Restore can return your system to an earlier time (called a restore point) without causing you to lose recent work (like emails, documents...). So if you have two programs that have developed a conflict, or something has become corrupted, you can restore your system back to a time before everything went to heck. In this case, it might take you back before the glitch between your laptop and printer. I'm not a geek though, so somebody who actually has some knowledge might be more helpful. :-)

By the way, if all you people actually have elves living with you who do housework, even occasionally, please...send them to me!

  • Good morning all. Gary, what  lovely dogs and well-behaved, too!  My lot would be over the barrier - but that's a collie thing!

Caerann Take care of your cold - bad enough any time but miserable at Christmas.

  • OG Thanks, I got to and from my Carol Service safely, despite black ice on the outward journey and snow on the way back.  I'm part of the very small choir and every member counts, though my singing isn't up to much!  My computer seems to be playing tricks this morning - messages are appearing and disappearing.
