Hi folks: Don't forget to check the last pages of the previous chat for links, comments, and all the usual twaddle. :-)
Hey AQ: I got Pete's Pond but only in full/half-screen mode right now - must be my computer settings - a bit odd. Those impala are certainly lively - very busy as Diane says. It's just about 10 p.m. Christmas Day; all dishes washed and put away and going to topple into bed fairly soon.
Ha! Wildebeest and what - monkeys??
I've never seen so many animals - and what's that strange noise - the wildebeest or my stomach?
Oh my, don't tell me that tiny bird is chasing the wildebeest!!
AQ: If you're there, what's that GIANT bird???
Annette: That GIANT bird is the big, cranky Kori Bustard that frightened off the herd of impalas. It displayed all of its plumage like a wild turkey, but it looks like some sort of prehistoric dinosaur bird!
OK. It's a Kori Bustard - Huge!! Sorry, I'm apparently nattering to myself.....
Diane: Thanks ! I googled "Big Bird at Pete's Pond" and got images of it. Amazing and yes, truly prehistoric looking. You're up late - baking more cookies?? :-)
I adore that bird. So ferociously feisty! So far, I have seen wildebeast (including the cutest baby), monkeys, impalas, warthogs, lots of big birds I couldn't ID, and Fatty, the Christmas crocodile.
On the FB chat for Pete's Pond, Afke identified it as a Kori Bustard. She also called it a "big chicken", in jest. I think she calls all birds "chickens."
I haven't seen Fatty; I gather Afke is the camera person/warden??? She seems to chat quite a bit with the folks on their Facebook page.
