Weekly Chat, Sunday, December 20 2009

Hi folks: Don't forget to check the last pages of the previous chat for links, comments, and all the usual twaddle.  :-)

  • Hello everyone.

Margobird: I could watch pied wagtails for ages.  Today's the first time time I've had one visit the garden, which was nice.  I hope I have the camera ready the next time one pays a visit.

OG:  That's a great picture of pied wagtail.  Thanks for posting.

AQ: That's a nice picture.  Jasper looks a very content cat.

  • TerryM, sorry I didn't remember it was you with the shep' pie. Pleas tell your OH he is a genius as it was the best EVER. Thanks again")

  • can;t keep up with everyone!

Lindybird, hope your head is better and , perhaps as important, OH got your pressie.

Alan, thank Hamish for me, lovely card

    Lovely Cat picture AQ, thanks.

So much else going on, enjoyed it all.

I had my hair cut today. Came back and I was told it was too short. I muttered "wonder what would happen if I ever said that" then got the death glare back!!!

  • AQ – loved the story of your mother’s washing!  And the brilliant Christmas thoughts and observations!!!

Gary – if your hair is too short, you’ll be the one to feel it in the next north-easterly!!!

About a Christmas present - we received a package from Daughter#2 with a gift for each of us.  Because we shall be away and are not taking presents with us, we decided to unwrap them tonight, rather than in the chaos of last minute packing tomorrow night.  Mine was an initialled leather folder for doing Sudoku on a wipe off plastic surface – with a special pen and wiper.  Great idea, and I tried it out.  I could smell some sort of spirit in the pen.  Then my lips got sore and started swelling – then my nose started to tingle inside. Yep! an allergic reaction to my Christmas present!  I have taken a dose of anti-histamine and will stay up a bit late tonight to make sure the symptoms subside, or at least don’t get any worse!!!  Some time soon, I shall have to thank her for it, but of course it is now in the bin!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Oh no, OG, but at least you have a little time to recover. Just imagine if you opened it on Christmas morn what a miserable day you would have.

  • OG, so sorry about the pressie. How thoughtful as well. Hope you don't get any more reaction

AQ, sorry, I should have said thank you as well for the wonderful christmas words:)

Hope everyone is getting on OK. Cold and windy tonight so electric blanket is cranked up!

  • Evening all: Rain sprinkles a bit here, but not much; still nice and cloudy.

Margobird: You and me and cupboard doors!  I blame it on the progressive lenses in my specs instead of inattention to doors.  When it rains here, I'm super-careful because of other drivers who aren't; assume your OH demonstrates the same caution.  :-)  My sister in Lincolnshire was in a terrible road accident years ago and isn't a good  passenger either, which is perfectly understandable.

dibnlib:  Re Lewis and his sidekick; it's interesting how the roles are reversed when compared to (with?)  the Morse/Lewis interaction.  Shoes on my head? You're kidding!!  That explains a lot..

OG: What a fat - and cute - little wagtail.  The homeless shelters don't take leftover food from homeowners, only store items that are at their sell-by date.  Thanks for clarifying RSPB photo.  Oh my, allergic to a present. Can you substitute the pen? I know when we had meetings at work and someone would write on the "white" board, the smell from the marker would have us all gasping for air.

Diane: Nice global greeting - thank you.

AQ:  Who knows, washing on a line could win an award.  :-)  I hate to see local "mom-and-pop" stores lose out to the supermarkets. One of the things that impressed me about Paris the other year was the number of small, neighborhood grocery stores that seem to thrive.  Is Jasper sitting on a piano?  Oh dear, we had a copper in our house in Watford were my poor overworked mother would do the washing on Mondays.... what a life that generation had!  :-(  Love the three stages of man.

Caerann: "Bonked" may have a different meaning in the UK, but maybe Margobird can confirm???

Gary: My husband always has his hair cut too short.

Watching U.S. Antiques Roadshow where everything seems to be really valuable this week. Lots of happy participants.  Off to reconcile credit card bill. Oh joy.  Take care all.

  • Morning all! So much enjoyable stuff to read, thanks. Can`t really remember who wrote what, so I don`t even try to comment any individuals, sorry. My Internet connection is ok now, it seems that hard winds bother these wireless lines. We`ve got quite a lot snow lately and yesterday when driving home from my mum`s had to drive very carefully, though the roads were either salted or plought(?, I really should use dictionary..) the constant snowing did is thing to visibility. Temp between -10 and -15 and snowing so everything outdoors looks very soft and pure. I like Morse and Lewis too.

  • Oh what a lovely card from Hamish!  My 4 send greetings back to him.

  • Morning everyone.

Temperatures around -5C here and I had the bright idea to go out with the bird food wearing just a t-shirt and a light fleece.  Not a comfortable experience it has to be said.

OG:  Sorry to hear about your allergic reaction to your Christmas present.

Auntie:  Glad to here your internet connection is working again.  Ours went down for about 24 hours a couple of months ago.  Turned out that someone at the telephone exchange had accidently disconnected us.

    Happy Tuesday everybody.

    Paul
