Hi folks: Don't forget to check the last pages of the previous chat for links, comments, and all the usual twaddle. :-)
Lindybird I'm a 'head-banger' too! - everything from open cupboard doors through granite work-tops to slamming the tailgate of the car while my head was underneath. Best not to brush your hair until the bump goes down. Take care!
'Tis gonna be HOT. Weatherman has revised today's prediction to 42 C. Already was 31 at 7.30 am. But far worse days for those whose travel plans have been upset by the cold freezing weather. It must be devastating to plan and pack and then but don't know if or when one can go.
Annette - Yes, Jasper is lounging on a baby grand which alas, now Dau#1 has left home, only gets played by spiders. Margobird - Jasper has a lovely personality too. Diane - Yes, cats know humans well. Are you doing all that baking in anticipation of my snow-sightseeing visit? Lindybird - Your husband was risking a knock on his head LOL. re haircuts. With 2 weddings planned next year, i brought out our wedding photo album (quite small compared to these days' DVD collections). Great mirth from the girls and embarrassment from Himself over his long & thick hair back then.
May all you who are travellers have a safe trip. And may all those staying at home have safely-travelled visitors.
One of our broken-beaked magpies is carrolling outside. Himself fed him some bread. But it seems Maggie doesn't like the white low-GI variety and is out there demanding the usual multigrain bits !!!!
wow, stay cool AQ. Can't get my head around being too hot at the moment!
Dibnlib, a heated water bowl is a bowl with an element in the base (covered) so when you plug it in it stops the water from freezing. So the water isn't hot just not ice!
Evening all: OG: Argh! Missed you! Do hope you have a lovely Christmas and all goes well. Auntie: Hallo! Diane: Up all night baking? I'm sure everyone will appreciate those treats! That is SO funny about Boo-Boo. I tell you, animals are smart. Margobird: Sure those birds appreciate your efforts! OH sounds like a keeper! Alan: Oh what a pain about bro-in-law's holiday. SueC: Happy Christmas!! TerryM: I think too-short hair on men makes them look uptight. Of course, back in the 60s I dated guys with ponytails! I remember half-crowns! Sounds like OH had a fun (not) afternoon digging out the septic. Eeeeew. dibnlib: I've used "bonked" innocently on trips back to the UK and got funny looks. Wow: If your throat hadn't collapsed you'd be okay? How reassuring was that! Nice postman must be from the old school. Alan: I wonder how birds' feet stay warm in all that snow. George: Very funny re good/bad haircuts; maybe truer for men? Lindybird: Don't know "clonked" - assume it means the same as original "bonked." Oh that Lapland story is priceless!! Gary: Our cat does exactly the same thing! Clean water every day, but would rather drink out of a puddle!
Still running about here in SoCal, but will be blogging. Just so I don't miss any departing folk: To everyone on the site, past and present: Sincerest wishes for a lovely holiday wherever you are. I've so enjoyed meeting you all over the last year - what a nice bunch of people. Thank you for all the good cheer, lovely links and photos, and generous comments!
Well, it wasn’t so hot after all, only 38 C with 14% humidity, because the sky turned overcast. My day started well, bus was on time (so, it is possible) plus air-conditioned. Found last pressie and took myself to library until lunchtime when I was so cold (a/c set too low) that I came home and fell asleep on lounge!!!!
BTW that last pressie is the most expensive in terms of time & shoe leather, having tried 7 shops in all. The worst day – I asked Inquiries on the way in. "Yes XYZ are over at the back of PQRs", I trot along, do figures of eights around the aisles, can’t see either XYZs or PQRs, until I spot what I want on the near side (from the Inquiry person). Alas, they only have one size, too big, it won’t fit. I walk to next shop, ask at Inquiries, "Yes XYZ are in department A", off I go, no, can’t find, limp back to Inquiries, a different helper says Dept B, now hobbling I circle until I bump into an assistant who says "Oh no, we don’t stock XYZs". No wonder I was getting a wee bit snitchy. The successful shop – I asked and the girl said "Personally I don’t know but I can call someone to find out". They not only stocked XYZs but had a choice !!!!
Now I must away to get evening meal after I have baked a boiled fruit cake which is going to be turned, I hope, into small golfball-sized Xmas puddings for the meal on Sunday for the girls (and their appendages). I’ve never tried this recipe. I shall let you know whether a success or disaster.
Annette I echo your good wishes to all for a great Christmas. Keep safe everyone both in the cold snowy conditions in UK and USA and in the antipodean heat - AQ I can't imagine 38 degrees!
We will be starting out our journey to join Family for Christmas shortly, so before I leave I would like to wish you A Very Happy Christmas. Enjoy the holiday and stay safe.
